so i was walking to the HUB (hetzel union building at penn state) and my phone fell out of my pocket (it was in the little "change pocket" at the top of the actual pocket). with my luck, it dropped into a flowing stream of water on the street that was about 2 inches deep. it then started to float away and moved about 1 1/2 feet before i could grab it. once again, with my luck, it was on the entire time. i picked it up and it was still working. i decided i better turn it off incase water was inside, i didnt want to short something out after the fact. so i went to the HUB and watched the movie (shrek 2... it was good) and was walking around inside and decided to check on my phone... try to turn it on, no go... take the battery out and in a couple of times, and it finally turns on but turns right off... try it again and it says "invalid batter" but the phone stayed on and functioned.... right now i have it taken as far apart as i could without tools (case and battery off) and am trying to dry it out some more.... i hope i didnt fry the battery or something... |

You should've taken the battery out immediately and allowed it to dry off. Best you can do now is get it entirely dry and hope it still works. If there are any inside areas that you can't get too that you think might have water in them, then allow them to dry too before even trying to power it back up. That make take a day or two.
A hair dryer on a low setting may speed the process along. |

Yeah water can screw up electronics, but not as badly as it does in the movies. My little sister spilled an entire cup of water right into my open computer once, it completely messed up, i let it dry for a couple days, and it worked fine. Maybe it melted a peice of the battery, or discharged it in the water? If i was you, id maybe rinse it with some clean water, with the battery out, and leave it for 2-3 days? |

ok, so i am impatient... before reading all of your comments, i dried out my phone some more (took it apart as far as i could and held it in front of a fan... it dried me out as well ) i then plugged the charger in and turned it on and was able to get it to work. i am happy now.. i did take it apart again and i will be leaving it out to dry until tomorrow, but i need my cell phone.... my school phone wont do longdistance (unless i set up some account, and then go through the bill with my roommate to figure out who owes who). |

My friend accidentally forgot his phone in his pants and then washed the pants in the washer. He took it apart, dried everything with a blow dryer on low and put it back together. The phone didnt work when he turned it on, so he plugged it into the charger and removed the battery. Surprisingly, the phone worked. It was the battery that got messed up. Ended up buying a new battery for the phone and it worked great after that.
If you cant get it to work with the battery, try the phone without the battery but with the charger. |

Why was this thread titled "stupid rain" when it should have been titled "dangit I'm so friggin' clumsy!"
Glad you got your phone working, I left mine on the roof of my car once...I heard (and saw) it bouncing off the back of my car and down the street at 45mph...some cracks and chips in the plastic, but it still worked. |

my cousin took his in the ocean......salt water. If that didn't fry his phone then I am sure fresh water won't fry yours. Let it dry a few days and it should be fine. If you have to buy a new battery......cheaper than replacing the whole phone. |
