Iraqi Nuclear-Related Materials Have "Vanished"

Quote:
Equipment and materials that could be used to make nuclear weapons are disappearing from Iraq but neither Baghdad nor Washington appears to have noticed, the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency reported on Monday.

Under anti-proliferation agreements, the U.S. occupation authorities who administered Iraq until June, and then the Iraqi interim government that took power at the end of June, would have to inform the IAEA if they moved or exported any of that material or equipment.

But no such reports have been received since the invasion, officials of the watchdog agency said.

Hmm, this stuff probably should have been watched over.

Probably shouldn't have lost this stuff, eh?

Actually Mike, I read a while back that a lot of the equipment that has disappeared has shown up as scrap metal in other countries. Some of it was still in perfect shape and cost several thousand dollars, but was turned in as scrap.

I do remember them saying that they were inventorying a bunch of it at a couple of the scrap yards.

Wouldn't the United States military or someone in Iraq mention that, though?
