I hate made up, dressed, painted, and dogs that have had their hair done. Unnatural. Urgh!!!

Dogs are not meant for that. But then again, neither are humans!!

My ma likes them. Kinda odd, yeah. But for anyone who knows anything about purebred dogs they are interesting I guess.

We used to have a couple of purebred wolfhounds. Now those were dogs!

    dude, ya gotta watch em!
cuz, you know, that the one time that you're flippin through the channels, and you see a dog show, and you skip it... THATS gonna be the one where lil fluffy the 5 pound poodle goes crazy and eats all the other dogs in 30 seconds and they have to call in the SWAT team to take it down.
One of my users has been computing for 33 years...... older than i've been alive..... soooooo of course I know NOTHING about the tech that I helped create.

Let's face it, no one would be upset if a real dog won the contest. Just like no one would be upset if the BEST team won the Olympic pairs figure skating.

That little poodle would look very cute, stuffed and sitting on my daughter's bureau.

HA! you want reek some havoc? Get some um..female dog ready for some lovin scent and "spill" some in various parts of the arenas.
Lets see who wins THAT contest, mother nature or training.
Won't work on the girl dogs though..
I used to work with a guy that showed bull terriers, and after a couple thousand dog show stories at the breakroom table, I told him one night, "he may be a champion many times over, with a pedigree a mile long, but I bet he still licks his butt when you're not looking"
He didn't say a word after that..but the whole breakroom sure was laughing..

If you haven't seen the movie "Best of Show" go rent it.

As a movie, it mostly sux, but as a commnetary on dog shows it's priceless. That and the guy with two left feet.

    WHEEE-HAHAHAHAHA!!! Funny thread!!

Can't help but notice how many people here went RIGHT to..."a REAL dog who'd tear the place apart, havoc," etc.

It's like the dignified fat lady who falls on the banana...take overblown dignity and kick it in the a$$...

Not to point any fingers, 'cause when I saw the title of this thread, that's right where I went, too!!

They key is watching the part of the show with the dogs involved you like, you can see some real fine animals looking closer...

    More info here: http://www.akc.org/dic/events/conform/begnshws.cfm

Sporting - These dogs were bred to hunt game birds both on land and in the water. The breeds in this group include Pointers, Retrievers, Setters and Spaniels.

Hounds - These breeds were bred for hunting other game by sight or scent. These breeds include such dogs as Beagles, Bassets, Dachshunds and Greyhounds.

Working - These dogs were bred to pull carts, guard property and perform search and rescue services. Among the breeds in this group are the Akita, Boxer, Doberman Pinscher and St. Bernard.

Terrier - This group includes breeds such as the Airedale, Cairn Terrier and Scottish Terrier. Terriers were bred to rid property of vermin such as rats.

Non-Sporting - This diverse group includes the Chow Chow, Bulldog, Dalmatian and Poodle. These dogs vary in size and function, and many are considered companion dogs.

Herding - These dogs were bred to help shepherds and ranchers herd their livestock. The Briard, Collie, German Shepherd Dog and Old English Sheepdog are some of the breeds in this group.

Finally, the seven group winners are brought into the ring where they compete for Best In Show, the highest award at a dog show.

Hey I have a peke! He's a bug eyed rat sized fluffy ball of fur and I like him that way. He is the sweetest little thing on four legs.

As far as dog shows go. My mother calls me and after asking if I have Animal Planet (I don't) launches into a play by play of the dog show Better than when she's doing a play by play of something off the Gameshow Network though!

Yeah. The ones with purple hair and pedicured feet. Never saw a normal Golden Retriever or a Cocker Spaniel win.

Its always the sissy looking ones that win.
