1000 Years From Now...
Believe it or not, something provoked thought in me - in school, no less. I forget exactly what brought the thought about, but that's not important.
I haven't been on this planet for but a speck of a speck of time, but I have seen, through following history, how our Earth is being degraded. Not even a hundred years ago, we had a much, much cleaner planet than we do now. With more pollutants to even consider naming, our world is going down the tubes.
Of course, war is ever-present, and I doubt that'll cease any time soon. People have been killing and will continue killing people for ages - not much else to say.
Most importantly, though, I have seen what technology has done to us. For one, everyone will probably be a number. How romantic. Sooner or later, average people will probably be able to get someone's whole background via the internet, or some other unforeseen means of communication created by technology. Even more than that is what technology is doing, to counteract its own conception. I think George Carlin brought this up in one of his skits, but I'm not sure.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm damn glad I'm living in the present, and won't have to deal with what the world will be like 1000, or even 100 years from now.
Good luck, great, great, great, great grandchildren!

TBR: The future does NOT look good, but hopefully I die before I have to worry about that
. I think George Orwell and Ray Bradbury have foreseen the future in a very accurate way

If you look at the last 100 years the first 60 were manly responsible,we have turned some things around,20 years ago in my area now you didnt dare eat fish out of several rivers. It is safe to do so now.In 10 to 15 years you will see a major push for fuel cell cars that will kill our dependance on foriegn oil and greatly reduce smog.Lots of work to do but if you think we have problems the east europe and former USSR have a cleaning problem from hell.

I'm not talking soley about the U.S. I'm just saying the whole world looks like it's going to hell in a handbasket.
Just imagine the population in 100 years.

I don't know. There is no way for us to tell what the future would be like in 1000 years. Personally I see it being incomprehensible to us, just as today's world would be unimaginable to a man from 1000AD France. Even 100 years for now will be a very different place, and just as incomprehensible to a man from 1900s America (just think how different 1900 is from 2000). Somehow, I don't see living 1000 years from now being good or bad, as there will be advantages and disadvantages.
Well take environmental issues for example. We are on the verge of destroying the world, but at the same time we are on the verge of destroying pollution. A friend of mine is big into forrestry and the environment, but told me one day that he didn't see environmental issues as an election issue since he's seeing pollution rapidly dissapear. After some thought on that, he's right, because pollution is really a sign of inefficiency. Thick black smoke out of an industrial smokestack is that much energy that isn't being converted into motion, but rather into making chemical bonds in pollutants. Technology always strives towards efficiency, and that means against pollution. But on the same token, new technology is always very inefficient, which means polluton (or unintended consequences). That brings new forms of pollution. So we're still back at square 1 here.

As far as the george orwellian society...it's entirely possible, and given our current trends in government we'll achieve it eventually.
As far as pollution goes i don't think it will get worse. Since we are so proactive about it now we will develop new technologies to deal with it. Fuel Cell cars are one way, the new pebble bed nuclear reactor in china is another, and there are a lot of other methodologies too.

Bah! I am sure that someone 300 years ago said the same thing about our time. AND, 1000 years from now, another person will be saying the same thing...it is nothing new.

So you people don't think a world population of 15 billion will hinder anything?

War is man's method of population control, like how lemmings kill themselves.
I can't fathom what the world will be like in 1000 years, but I'm sure it'll have improved (for the most part) from what it is today.

There will probably be statues and monuments dedicated to me and my greatness.
People will actually worship me.
I can't wait!

Population control will always happen by nature, not by choice. Something will do some of us in, no matter what medicine or science does to prevent it.
While the future looks grim to you, the future looks bright to me! It's just at the end of the tunnel, that's all

the anti-malthusians think the population is in stage three (stable amount of births and deaths) and about to hit stage four (more deaths than births) so depending on who you ask we may not have a population problem. Think of all the baby boomer we will ose in the next 30-40 years.
As technology increases so will our ability to take care of the environment. I think we just happen to be living the part of history where efficiency hasnt caught up with productivity.

Well, India is developing like crazy. And it seems like they have some pretty horny people over there...
With healthcare getting better, and more countries developing, the population should steadily rise. It just depends on unexpected things such as famine, large-scale war, and exhaustion of resources.

its a crazy thought when you sit back and you think of all the people who have lived and have died since how ever man became on this earth. Everyday someone passes away, one less person you will never get to meet. that personalility and life story is gone forever. Im too tired to be thinking so deep
