| Finally a McD's lawsuit with a win-win ending. McDonald's agrees to pay $8.5 million to settle a lawsuit based on their use of unhealthy trans fatty acids in their vegetable oils. $7 million goes to the American Heart Association and $1.5 million will be spent on public notices and education. No one gets rich and some good is done. That's the way it should always work. |

| That is unethical that they should have to settle a lawsuit to begin with. That is not a win win situation.
So what if they use unhealthy fats in their food? NOBODY forces you to eat there. Let them use whatever they want, there is not reason that they should be at all responsible for people that have no self control.

| As Tommy Lee Jones so eloquently put it, "A person is smart. People are dumb as hell." You could use your line of thinking to justify corporations doing anything they wanted.
"Who cares if the car is a death trap? If it's that bad, people should know not to buy it."
"So what if that airline keeps killing people because of shoddy maintenance? People should know better than to fly them."
Lawsuits such as these keep corporations in line. Without them, you'd have to research everything you ate, drove, wore, lived in, flew in, or played with. I'm just glad to see the money going to a good use rather than making some schlep a millionaire. |

Until it hits these corporations where it hurts, they'll keep serving up the same unhealthy food. And don't forget, not everyone is as educated as you. There are folks out there who, for one reason or another, don't understand how dangerous this food can be. |

People usually don't go eat fast food because it is going to be a healthy meal. When do you deem that the food is "healthy" enough to leave it alone? |

| In America, M_Six, as far as the Fast Food agency goes, NO ONE can claim that they don't know its unhealthy to eat Big Macs 5 days a week, or that they don't know that burgers are unhealthy.
McDonald's is in business because people eat there. If people stopped eating there, the corporation would be kept in line. This lawsuit is B.S.

| Noone is saying that blaze. Its just that we know that trans fat is unhealthy, but we don't know how unhealthly it is yet. Possibly eating ANY quantity of trans-fat could be bad for you, because theres a heck of alot more health problems now than there used to be before hydrogenation started, so you never know.
Thats like saying its ok to use rat poison in the fries without telling you, because you should know that they arent good for you. |

If you eat a mc'donalds alot you would probably notica a weight and common sense would tell you its your diet.
I think if mcdonalds wants to serve you a bowl of fat with a pound of suger on top then they should be able to do so.
A person needs to learn self control, you can't rely on others to make sure your life is perfect.
EDIT: Time for my opinion to be picked appart

| Bottom line is I don't want, nor need anybody telling me what I can or cannot eat, drink, drive, wear, fly, etc., because somebody "thinks" it's bad for me. |
