| Freed Italian hostage wounded by US troops
Recently released Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena, held hostage for a month in Iraq, was wounded by US troops as her car approached Bagdad's airport. Quote:
According to a multinational forces statement, the car approached the checkpoint at high speed about 9 p.m.
U.S. troops "attempted to warn the driver to stop by hand and arm signals, flashing white lights, and firing warning shots in front of the car," the statement said. "When the driver didn't stop, the soldiers shot into the engine block, which stopped the vehicle, killing one and wounding two others."
| Oops.

Pardon me, but if they didn't stop after repeaded attempts to stop them, then that's kinda their fault. If I was manning the M249 that day, and they didn't stop, I'd probably do more than just cut up the engine block. And for God's sake, you don't approach a checkpoint at "high speeds".

That is specifically why I included that quote. I wasn't blaming the Americans. I was just pointing out an unfortunate incident. |

What are you in shock about?
Is that too harsh? Not harsh enough? Do you want a ticket? Because I could do that too. |

I want you to wave your badge at me, while swinging your nightstick. Maybe a little "Hey, slow down, you loon!" too. |
