The Meaning of Pain:In Memorium T.K.O.P

I just learned TKOP is dead.

".and Death shall have no Dominion", said Dylan Thomas and I often think of that in moments like this.

Then I went to my PMs and re-read what TKOP had discussed..
    an "old friend" it was...
    a common friend...

    And a damnable adversary.
Perhaps I should not share this fact..
But it is the best Memorium I could give him:

He had a Dr.who once treated him for many years with the notion that Pain is only a symptom...a mask of some other problem....that blocking the pain doesn't solve any problem...was only a palliative and not a cure....

Damn that view, I know well,
having spent years with my body feeling torn in half
    In 24/7 pain.

What I understood, and Tim came to understand:
that pain is a symptom for, two hours, two weeks, even two months...
    But not for two years.

It assumes a life of its own.
    It is The disease.
And it must be fought on its own terms.

With Courage to the end, he fought that battle over Pain.
    And won.

Megalos, that's gotta be the dumbest 'Doktor' I ever heard of. Or maybe not so dumb, just sadistic!

I had a friend named Sharon whose 79-year-old mom was dying of cancer. Slowly, hideously, and very painfully. She could have taken a Morphine drip, or any number of other pain-blockers...

But the 'Doktors' refused this, saying that they feared she would become an addict!!

79 years old, and dying... Gee whiz, can't have ADDICTION, huh? Anyway, I still had a bunch of Vicodin tablets (from an earlier accident) that I gave her, and between our circle of friends, we were able to collect a whole mess of medications. I hope they did some good.

But the weird thing is....what is it with these so-called doctors?? I don't even need to argue any point here at all, it's so self-evident!!

Are these guys saving up the good stuff for themselves? Or is it just sheer Sadism, letting people suffer needlessly like that?

Or are they just STUPID? And if so, how did these guys get put in charge of our lives, and they way we live and die?

At least Tim was smart enough to find ways around these jokers, and had recently found a Doctor who understood the concept of Pain Management. It was something I wasn't aware of, but according to Tim, it is a growing movement in the newer medical circles.

Probably because of guys like Tim.
