As to style, I prefer the Solstice as compared to the Miata, but that should be a given considering how many years the Miata has remained relatively static with minimal updates.

I like the Skye as well, but despite both being the same platform, I would rather drive a Pontiac than a Saturn. People associate performance and styling with the Pontiac brand name. Saturn does have the Redline, which has helped with brand recognition among enthusiasts in recent times. but it remains a relatively obscure car among the masses.

so Rob, did you see the Mallett Solstice? Put a LS2 in it! That would be a true roadster, and they are making quite a few of them for fairly cheap

The power to weight ratio would be extreme, but the suspension would need extensive modifications to deal with the front to back weight distribution ratio. The LS2 considerably outweights the Ecotec.

true, but it's the closest thing to an old Shelby Cobra. I'm sure they have other mods included in the package though, the axle's might not be able to handle the power difference aswell.

The Miata is just well, a miata. It's not something I would like to be like "ya, I drive a miata! WOOT!"

It's more or less the standard grocery getter, with less seats

...show me a article where the Solsitce handles better? it brakes worse and acclerates worse than the miata. it weighs more too so it won't handle better.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not bashing miata's, it's just that there's nothing special about them anymore, as you have pointed out, it really needs a true update.

The solstice actually isn't "too bad" as in form of handling, it's got some good suspension for tracks, but it also has a great highway cruising feel.

umm, it just got a true update more engine power, a revised chassis and suspension, and a new interior as well as exterior.

Really? I haven't seen any "new" Miata's yet. The VW bug had many changes to it, but the basic bug wasn't updated until they revamped them into ones you see today.

I was considering the old MX-5. Then I realized it took premium and I that I'm 6'3" and that I live in cold climate 4 months of the year.

I think the Miata MX5 looks really nice, it has a much more appealing interior than the Solstice, but the Solstice wins hands down on the exterior design.

Where's the departure from the old design? They are doing to the Miata what VW did with the Bug. Minor cosmetic changes here and there, some performance and suspension upgrades, but it's still a Miata no matter who looks at it...

Where's Mazdaspeeds flair? The Mazda 6 and the 3 are pretty mean looking rides ( I can't and won't comment on the RX8 ), definetely not your mothers 626 or 323/protege' .

They need to sex it up more. To me, it's just a 2 door Plecostomus.

So yesterday I pull up next to a Cobalt SS at a red light. Note I was driving my Talon. I have not had the experience of personally winding out a SS model off the line, so I was sort of curious about the car. Just as I looked over, the driver taps the accelerator while clutched, and a horrible sound like a cat being strangled spills out the back of the factory exhaust. I mean it sounded like the engine was ready to fall apart. WTH? This was a brand new car!

I nearly laughed my head off. I guess the other driver was embarrassed, just as he should be for driving something that sounds that hideous. After that, he filtered back into traffic and left me alone. I know the Cobalt SS is fast, but that POS factory exhaust would have to go if I owned one.

Personally, chevy shouldn't have gone the "ford" way and supercharged it...

It would have been nicer N/A

    BAHAHAHA

You have gone off the deep end my friend.

LS2's don't sound good? So then how does that make a 4.6l sound for a v8?

When I hear a Corvette, I think "Indy Car". Way too high-pitched and it's not even loud. I guess I shouldn't speak for the LS2, but from what I heard of 2004 and older Vettes, they sound like muffled crap.

The LS2s don't sound good. Bingo is right. Pontiac is the only GM company that makes decent sounding small blocks.

Of course that's all just opinion, isn't it?

Finally got the Contour in for the alignment. Now if I can just figure out what the crap is wrong with the motor.

I have to say that the Ford 5.0L with stock exhaust sounds better than the Ford 4.6L with stock exhaust, IMO of course.

Let me get something clear. The 2005 Vettes have the LS2, right? Did the LS1s die with the Camaro/Firebird or did they run that with the 2004 Corvette? I always get confused there.

I believe the LS1 ended with the F-body cars, but I could be mistaken. I quit following GM engines after the Firebird was retired. However, I can say the new LS7 sounds good.
