Well, my pads are about toast, and my rotors are nearing their end. My tires will also need replaced before years end. I was hoping to wait until closer to Christmas for new tires, though.

Depends on the quality of brake and rotors you install, or if you have the current rotors lathed instead of just replacing them.

Kelly Blue said about $10,000 | Sorry, there is NO way I would pay 10k for a 11-12 year old car...
I don't care what make/model it is. |

I must be pickin' expensive parts, it's looking like 4 new rotors and brake pads are gonna cost me $275-300. Auto Parts Warehouse doesn't seem to have the Brembo rotors for the rear in stock, though...wah.
$123.55 just for the pads. |

[takes head and smashes it into the desk for crashing his 1971 Chevelle in 1996....grrrrrrrrrrrrrr]
Damnit, I want a 1970 SS (or clone) Chevelle so friggin bad I can taste the burnt rubber. Them things are insane expensive now! Tell EVERYONE that Chevelle's SUCK. Do you hear me world!!!! Quit buying the dang things, cuz I want one, and I can't keep up with these insane prices. At this rate their value will outpace my salary by a factor of 3 or more!
I guess it would be more realistic of me to seek employment for 3X my current salary...wouldn't know where to begin that hunt! |

Kelly Blue said about $10,000 | Toss KBB, or pretty much any book value right now. With the economic downtown, the automotive market is taking an impact as well.
With that said, the 420 is a solid Benz model. A good mid-level model, and certainly a step up from the C280 sedan that is so popular in the used "near-luxury" market segment. Assuming the mileage is decent, $8k is not too bad. Don't take me wrong, as it is not exactly a deal either, but it is about what I would expect for a good condition, moderate mileage example.
With that said, would I pay $8k for a 420? Probably not. If wanting a Benz, I would likely look back a few more years to the last of the classic era models, like the 450 and maybe even the 560 assuming it had a competent service history. Then again, I could just be partial to the older styling, as I used to drive a 450SE. |
