Went to look at a Capri XR2 yesterday. Needed some cosmetics, but had a recent rebuild on the Mazda turbocharged engine, plus had the factory hardtop convertible option. Just one major problem. Got there, and it did not have the tilt wheel option, which is practically a must for a person my size driving a small car. Oh well.
I should have driven to Tampa and picked up a first-generation RX-7 awhile back. 12B rotary, carb, etc. - in other words, an engine with relatively affordable upgrade options.

Let's see. 12MPG versus 25+ MPG. Hmmm....
If I was shopping for a classic V8 with a factory small block, I would be more inclined to think a Thunderbird with a 390. |

Still waiting on parts to hopefully rebuild the Talon's ECU. I wouldn't mind having it running this weekend. I like the Maxx, but I bought it for commuting and hauling people. The Talon is more for fun. |

Question: My state will eventually be moving from a mandatory 10% ethanol mix to a 20% mix. My car manual (2005 Subaru Impreza non-turbo) says it will handle up to 10% ethanol. Do I need to worry about the eventual 20% mix? |

Probably not. What you can likely expect is a moderate drop in MPG efficiency. Sounds great, right?
Actually, current stickers usually say 10%, but blends are typically more like 5%. The vendors used 10% stickers so they could have some padding room as the standards change without continously replacing stickers. It could be a similar deal with the 20% stickers.
On a related note, if your car does not have "flex fuel" or similar certification, true E85 can potentially "eat" the plastics in your fuel system. Definitely avoid it if not sure. |

Thanks Rob, certainly something to consider when the lease is up this January. I know for sure that it's not E85 capable, so I don't even bother. |
