LC might have been okay assuming Nissan actually built the transmission to deal with the added stress. All LC basically does is drop the trans into gear at rev, making it essentially a partially computer controlled neutral drop.
Hard launching a supercar regardless of an automatic, manual, DSG, etc. transmission can be an expensive prospect for unknowing drivers. For example, the Carrera GT is known for blowing up clutches. The contrast is Porsche was (still is?) typically covering the clutches under warranty, as Porsche padded plenty of profit to cover such warranty repairs on a high-performance vehicle. IMO, Porsche also expects its cars to be driven hard. AFAIK, even the Ferrari Enzo clutch is only factory rated for something like three hard launches, and the owner is probably going to be on the hook for repairs regardless of warranty. The difference there is the owner can probably afford the repair bill if he can afford the Enzo.

Simply put, most supercars are built for highway performance, not launching off the line. That should be evident when an aftermarket-modified DSM, Firebird, Mustang, or even Honda can walk off from many popular stock supercars on the straight 1320. |

So let's do a review here of the GT-R
-It's a AWD "supercar", but can't be launched hard due to the risk of destroying the transmission
-It's heavy and over computer controlled
-It's under powered for its weight and price point
Anything else we can add? Oh yea, it's kind of ugly.
The good?
-It's fast to 60, but you don't want to ever do that anyways. (refer to review point one)
-Handles well (AWD does have it's uses, even if the GT-R does understeer quite a bit IIRC.)
__________
Screw it, just give me a Viper and I'll be happy. The viper isn't exactly known to be user friendly, you screw up and it kicks your arse big time. No computer controlled handicaps (atleast on older models, hell some of them didn't even have ABS)

It's an 11 second car that can pull track time that would rival a CGT. Hardly under powered. Oh, and it does this at a fraction of the cost of other cars with similar performance characteristics. So hardly over-priced. |

Seems overpriced to me. Overengineered as well.
At the end of the day, when cruising down the beachfront strip, the GT-R is still a Nissan.
I am not kicking Nissan, as it builds a rather nice product. I am just stating there is a huge brand marque difference between it and say Porsche, Maserati, Ferrari, etc. |

No it's not an elegant sophisticate like the Euro supercars. but it did win Motor Trend's Car Of the Year 2009.
I had a rare chance two weeks ago to sit shotgun in one(a dealer owner had a rock chip in the windshield so I accompanied the Service Director on the "long way" to the glass shop.
It is one scary-fast car, and I've owned SVT Cobras, turbo rotaries and sportbikes. It only had 450mi on it so no "neutral drops". We also tinkered with the Nissan laptop apps service uses that makes a G-Tech and OBD-II diagnostics look like child's play. A dyno at your fingertips. If you like to overclock and tinker, this is the car for you, albeit marked up to almost a 100g's from the 74-77k factory invoice. |

So hardly over-priced. | And a Z06 is 11 second car powered by the rear wheels only with similar 0-60 times. It would be zero contest once you are going. Your point? Didn't realize it was a fraction of the z06's cost either?
480hp and even less torque is underpowered for a car weighing almost 4k lbs with AWD that costs roughly 80k. |
