Man, I bet my girlfriend is gonna be hating you later..
She's been griping at me to stop spending money on the truck. After I got the lift, and front grill, it took me A LOT of convincing about the wheels. lol
Mainly why it is what it is now. |

Yep the RS4 is a prestige car but I'd at least feel a little more comfortable if it were a CPO (which there are several of them around). With a decent warranty backing it I think it'd be less risky regarding it possibly being run hard.
While Im not a huge fan of the CLK class Mercedes I had contemplated the C63 AMG but unfortunately they are not competitively priced in regards to the audis. It is a complete monster but when I sat in it at the auto show it would NOT be a great daily driver. Plus I for some reason feel too young to drive a Merc...yeah I know its weird.
Manual tranny is not an issue for me and is somewhat preferred at the moment. I have gone without it for 3.5 years and miss it!

Here's an odd one. My brother has a HEMI Magnum ( man, do I love that car! ) and he was in the parking lot of his work whipping what we call "shitties" ( circles ) and the car stalled on him and was hesitant to start. Ever since then, the car would warm up, and then the temperature would drop, the heat would stop working and a lightning bolt symbol on the dash would light up. The symbol has something to do with electronic throttle control.
I brought my OBD2 scanner over and we went out for a run. 25 degrees ambient and it was 4 miles of driving after a couple of minutes in the driveway and only got up to about 130 degrees Farenheight. He's supposedly a little low on coolant, but I can't imagine what would cause an engine to start running cooler after it warms up unless the thermostat is stuck open ( a likely scenario since the codes stored had to do with the coolant at lower than operating temperature, etc )
I've never heard of a car getting up to temp, and then cooling off. That and while cruising, his O2 sensor was ranging from .015 to .890 volts...erratically all over the place. That could be from the "displacement on demand" that the hemi has, or ???
Makes me glad that I drive two cars built in 1997. I like easy tech that I can still understand. |

Have you directly measured the coolant temp? Anyway, yeah, that does potentially sound like a stuck thermostat. I am not sure of the coolant temperature sensor threshold on that particular platform, but the ECM could perhaps even be bouncing between open and closed loop modes due to an abnormally cool coolant temperature.
Not sure on the O2 reading, but the DoD aspect does sound plausible for the variance.

I'd also recommend checking the oil for coolant and coolant for oil.

Head or head gasket leak? Perhaps, though I would expect the coolant to still come up close to operating temperature regardless. |

Try the M70 V12 in the 1991 BMW that I acquired over the weekend. I am considering a performance chip set if it drives out after a few months. Probably Wokke chips for both ECMs and the EML, plus a Dinan chip for the TCU. If you are counting, that is four dedicated computers for just the engine and trans. More computers and controllers for ABS, ASC, etc. |

Didn't know it was pushing roughly 300hp and 325ftlbs of torque, either. Sounds like a fun highway cruiser.

I've found my ticket for a very cheap & simple do it yourself paint job...Time consuming, but it's all prep and details that make a paint job so that's a given. Welcome to EarlyXJ.com
I think I will go with a gloss black when I get to it. The only reason I'm going to do one is because my clearcoat is gone and every time I wash it(or it rains) more paint comes off. Due to this, it is starting to get surface rust in various locations, especially on the bed. Something I definitely do not want getting any worse.
My spray paint/rust converter jobs I've done in the past only seem to hold up for so long and are not worth the effort anymore if I can get it done.

With the chips I described, it should be more like 330+ HP and 390+ ft-lb torque.
Probably 400+ fl-lb with chips, CAI, and exhaust. Still, the chips should be enough, assuming I even get around to installing them. The stock power is pretty impressive given the weight the car, especially on the highway. The M70 has a wide power band at cruising speeds.
Even at stock power numbers, the E32 with M70 V12 was supposedly factory tested to 186+ MPH with the 155MPH speed limiter removed. However, I have the extended "L" body, so being realistic about the added weight, I am thinking more like 170-175MPH with the tuning chips. |

It's great to have loads of torque on tap, at any rpm.
How is the exhaust note on that 5.0 v12? Never heard one in person. |
