In the mean time, Red is going to get one heckuva stiff neck from having to look over his shoulder while cutting the lawn backwards.

Fixed it. It was a simple "d-0h!" moment. As I have no manual for this tractor ( 1985 model bought 2nd hand...or 25th, I have no idea ), and they don't list how the belt is routed, I looked into it a little further and discovered that I hadn't put the "twist" in the belt the right way, so I was routed incorrectly. At first glance, you wouldn't think you could screw it up, and I knew something was wrong...but assumed I had done it the right way again. Color me hot and frustrated ( heat index of 100+ today ). My common sense had simply failed me, and then the mower over heated and shut down on me 3/4ths of the way done with the yard ( I choked it to increase the air/fuel mixture to help cool down the cylinders before I shut it down so hopefully there wasn't any real damage done to the motor. |

should be alright... I would change the oil after you finish the yard...
Getting oil that hot- break it down to the point where there is no cushon left in the oil... making it no better than water... |

So I've been noticing a whine, and have come to the conclusion that it's my transmission...but I'm not 100% sure.
I noticed today however in the cooler weather it hasn't whined nearly as loud when accelerating, and knowing that heat is the major problem for my AW-4 automatic transmission, I think i'm going to invest in a B&M cooler.
I was thinking it was a possible u-joint/driveshaft/rear axle problem due to my mechanic claiming such about 6 months ago, but I wouldn't think that would go away due to it being colder. Or am I wrong in that assumption?

| Robert, did you happen to weigh your new wheels before putting them on your car? And, are those 16" or 17"?

16" rims, which is the factory size. Did not weigh them. I did not care much about their weight, as I drive the Talon as an around town passenger car. They are probably lighter than the heavy OEM rims.

SC, curious, how long has it been since fluids for the transmission and the rear differential have been changed? |

However, I plan to drain the pan and refill, which is only about 20% of the total fluid. If I do it every oil change I should have most of the crap out without "shocking" my transmission. I've also had some lucas tranny fluid sitting on the shelf waiting for use.
The diff on the other hand hasn't been touched to my knowledge. |
