But the funny part is, it's quiet and smooth when the engine is "cold", as soon as it gets up to operating temp the noise is much much louder and noticeable. I don't really hear it when I drive, only at idle.
Any ideas? Also, my exhaust sounds slightly different as well...
Possible clogged cat causing problems? | You need 10w40 oil
what happened it worn out and oil pressure is low when hot. Need thick oil to do.
Or swap with another good motor.

Or swap with another good motor. | The oil pump was replaced and the bottom end was just rebuilt. This happened after I threw in the 10-40 and was more noticeable with it.

Check timing, compression and oil pressure. Than back to that shop, with a warm engine. |

You rebuilt the bottom end so thats all nice and tight. What about the top end clearances? Somewhere in the system there is some slop.

Used this for years and have high mileage. Actually freed up a lifter in my 454 after a rebuild.

It is the Battery failing. Or you need to clean and re do the battery clamps.

Check the bearing sizes, and the oiling holes in the crankshaft. I think you have the wrong bearing sizes in there.
Just my opinion.

Could be a light rod knock damaged, or as mentioned, not properly sized bearings |

This ABS thing is really starting to irritate me. I've got NO ABS light coming on, except during self test, yet every time you come to a complete stop, it engages the system. I have to pull the fuse to get normal braking when coming to a complete stop.
I checked the front and rear ABS sensors and replaced the left front as it was coming in 100 ohms higher than the right front to no avail.
strangely though, I remember the ABS not kicking in to a complete stop if I had the tires turned in one direction (I don't remember which off hand ).
Seems to me that the ABS computer is screwed up some how? I don't know. I don't have an ABS scanner to read the sensors...the only thing I could do would be to spin the tires in the air with a multimeter on the harness...not happening ( AWD ) by me anyway.
Any thoughts? Maybe I'm overlooking something here. I'm a little more concerned because the wife complained about a short lapse of braking last night. She had depressed the petal to stop, but wasn't getting any action out of the brakes....she pushed the pedal again and the brakes worked fine...no problems since.
This isn't something I want to fiddle with for too long. |

Red, if the hubs are measuring out fine I would suspect a small amount of resistance in one of the jumper wires leading to the wheels. Of course you would have to watch the wheel speeds with a scan tool as you stated to pin point which one is dropping out. I have had a few in the last few weeks on cars with as few as 20k on them.
I know MAC sells a pretty decent quick scanner for 150 that can read what you need, but I can't locate it. I was going to pick one of those up before I finally splurged on the Snap-On Solus.
Good luck
