Exclamation
parental rights

Im 36 weeks pregnant and the father of the baby at first said that he would help. Then when He got back with his ex he said that he wouldnt help and that he didnt want anything to do with the baby and didnt care. He didnt tell his girlfriend about me and she found out and acts like its my fault. He aslo has said that he isnt going to pay anything at all no matter what. so i think that its best if i have him give up his parental rights.... Should i do this?? And if so how do i go about doing that and do i need a lawyer to do this???? And if i ask him to give up his parental rights and he says no what does that mean and what should i do???

Um... you may want to get a lawyer to help you with this...

JMHO you should seek child support from him, that is for your child to support them not for you.

How about a paternity suit? You can sue him for child support. Your best bet is to contact a lawyer to find out all of your options and then decide from there.

Sueing for child support rarely has any effect. If the father is a deadbeat, you still don't get anything out of it.

Get in touch with Planned Parenthood and Social Services and see what programs are available for single mothers. Most of my friends are single mothers, and they have done alright.

As far as rights go, if he's got that attitude, it's likely that it won't become in issue at all. If it does, go to a state lawyer ASAP. I believe Social Services will be able to help you with that as well.

Isn't not paying child support one of those things they throw you in jail for? Or at least garnish wages until it's paid?

You'd think so, right? But in Michigan, that's rarely how it ever ends up.

Quite correct.

Why right now there are "only" 1.5 million men being searched for for back child support by MORE THAN 5 YEARS. When(if) they catch them the men will have their wages garnished eventually, after all of the paperwork AND maybe in less than 2 or so years after that payments may be seen coming in.

I strongly suggest you consult a lawyer right now on what you can do to ensure this deadbeat meets his obligations for your child. Your child needs/deserves future where if he/she cant live comfortably at least live in a basically decent manner.

I wish you good luck.
Welcome to TechIMO, BTW.

Here it not optional. It comes right out of your paycheck from day 1, not just if you don't pay.

Like other said, get a lawyer.

Welcome!
