| Looking for fiberglass hood and other tips on gas mileage
First off - how much would a fiberglass hood, just a basic one, run me for a 1990 Honda Civic DX?
Secondly, where can I get one?
Thirdly, what are some other parts/considerations I should look into for reducing weight and improving gas mileage (save for removing the backseat and not driving like I normally do)? |

First off I'd factor in if it's really worth it.
Secondly, you may want to check out this link that Nunya suggested to me: http://www.car-part.com/ |

A fiberglass hood is mostly about shaving time at the strip. It is going to do little for gas mileage.
Tons of performance shops carry aftermarket hoods and other body parts. Jegs is a good, generic place to start researching online: http://www.jegs.com/
You can probably score a Harwood fiberglass hood for around $500 shipped.
However, I strongly recommend you check out local performance shops as well. It helps to talk with a knowledgeable person before investing in expensive aftermarket body parts. Quality varies highly, and it is not always consistent across brands.

Also search out local Honda enthusiast clubs. You can usually score used aftermarket body and performance parts from club members for a good price. Many clubs even have regular swap meets just for this purpose. |

-keep tires inflated
-replace air/fuel filters
-keep motor in high gear on manuals
-in hot weather at low speeds, roll windows down
-in hot weather on the highway, use A/C
-in warm weather use the vents
-keep 4+ seconds between you and the car ahead to reduce braking
-maximize coasting to reduce acceleration and braking
-remove roof racks and spoilers
-use the proper viscosity energy conserving oil for your car (synthetics may help)
-replace faulty O2 sensors |
