The collision is expected to occur around 1:52 a.m. EDT

Hopefully it won't be cloudy on that morning.

    Cheers!

It'll be aiming for the sunny side of the comet. It will aim at the centre of a big light. I doubt if it will miss.

    Cheers!

you know, i just watched a show "meteor" (can't remember what channel) where a probe was sent up after an asteroid, and when they were through with the observations, they did an un-planned 'landing' on the thing. they even continued to get some data after the crash, and they claim it's still on the surface.

yeah i saw that too. it was the first time they have been that close to the meteror. it offered them extreme hd photos of the meteror. plus when it landed it kept transmitting.

OOPs... I forgot to carry the one.

well the good news was, this comet was not due to hit the earth in 2017, the bad news is that since we whacked it off course a bit it will almost certainly hit us in 2020

As much as I would like to see fireworks, I am betting that NASA's will fail to hit it.

Hey can anyone tell me how many lives could have been saved for 333 MILLION american dollars??

Yes I agree that we need the information, but I think that feeding the hungry and healing the sick/dying should take precedence.

Why should the sum total of man's existance be to save lives, and ignore science that has brought an end to famine. Yeah, I know. Except famine in those countries that are run by despots and are out of range of modern agriculture.

How about a tax cut of 333 MILLION DOLLARS?

14% of what I make go to charity/relief work not including FAD nor my volunteer time. My donations to help mankind(as opposed to taxes) are a very small drop in the bucket compared to the millions wasted on this thing. I personally believe that the millions of dollars could have gone to saving thousands of lives.

How about you? How many OTHER PEOPLES CHILDREN must die to learn what a comet will be composed of? How would you feel if it WAS YOUR OWN CHILD??

The MAIN, and many believe ONLY, reason society exists is to assure our SPECIES SURVIVAL. I am NOT saying for us to ignore scientific study, I am saying that lives are more important NOW than anything we will learn NOW from this expensive experiment. While the scientific study of the cosmos needs to be done it, IMO it isnt as important as the ASSURED SURVIVAL of those already living.
