The Canadian one is about 40 minutes from here. Descriptions are pretty eerie. Once it happened, you could have heard a pin drop the crowd was so silent, until they started telling everyone to get the hell out. |

ICAS(International Council of Airshows) has strict flight rules in place designated the airshow "box" since the Ramstein AFB disaster of the early 90's in Germany(Google for the vid). No aerobatics can be performed outside this safe zone and it's now safely away from spectators along the landing strip axis and any direction changes towards the crowd must be flat. But any formation flying or maneuvering close together has a possibility of disaster. I've seen three first-hand in 15 years.
Btw, the life expectancy of a WWI pilot in their Fokkers, Jennys and Spads was less than 15 days. Attempting duel/dogfight aerobatics in these unforgiving deathtraps for the purpose of entertainment, even with replica airframes, is not really all that smart.

There are old pilots and bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots. |

I guess some thrill shows are more thrilling than others. |
