| Money Earmarked for Evacuation Redirected
I think one of the first things that needs to be investigated is where the money went, who authorized the funds to be redirected, and then hold the responsible person/people accountable. Quote: |
The $500,000 that Congress appropriated for the evacuation plan went to a commission that studied future options for the 24-mile bridge over Lake Pontchartrain, FEMA spokesman Butch Kinerney said.
| AND Quote: |
"They never used it for the intended purpose," said former Rep. Billy Tauzin, R-La. "The whole intent was to give them resources so they could plan an evacuation of New Orleans that anticipated that a very large number of people would never leave."
| I read this last night and I figured I'd give MTA, Gomer, EpyonMelee, or Theo a chance to post a thread, but it seems they didn't feel it would fit their "It's the President's, the Federal Government, and/or Republicans fault.

I've already said there's plenty of blame to go round. I'm not a Republican; I don't make excuses for corruption and incompetence by members of my own party. But corruption and incompetence haven't been raised to the level of principles by the Democrats.

This is exactly why we need an independent investigation.
My understanding is that it is illegal to spend money that has not been appropriated for the purpose Congress intended.

Key word is "independent"! And that would leave out the investigation proposed by Hilary.
I would prefer a third party, non-partisan investigation. (Simply because I don't trust any of the Senators or Congressmen for party politics. )

This isn't a time for politics, they should just set up a free Wal-mart store. I believe they over reacted to try to alleviate suffering but as usual man kind will flub it up, good thought bad idea to give money instead of food ,cloths, shelter, transportation. No offense,I think all the people left homeless need money.
They have needs before that and we should not be complaining that some smuck spent his wrong....In other words trial and error and the smucks will not get anymore when the others are getting shaved, bathed, clothed and fed with dignity. Ya know what I mean . Common guys this is a gigantic catastrophe . At least they are trying to aleviate the suffering ,despite some dumb a@@ spending theirs badly. I'm glad the press is watching that though. |
