Unhappy Pakistani quake toll estimated at 54,000

This is just horrible... it continues to climb.

Torrential rains disrupted rescue operations in the Himalayan region of Kashmir on Sunday as Pakistani officials sharply raised their estimate of the death toll from last weekend’s mammoth earthquake to more than 54,000.

Hopefully, as with the disaster in our country, people will take the option to move away from these deadly areas. After almost being a victum of Camille, when I moved to Mississippi, I decided to live in Jackson, a good peice out of harm's way.

I wonder what page this thread would be on if a natural disaster had claimed 54,000 American lives?

    Just what I was thinking.....

I am sure it is high up on a pakistani forum site.....just gotta find one

The fact that there hasn't been a quake for I think the best part of 70 years makes it worse....
At first it was thought that Oetzi died from exposure to cold but wounds on his hands and an arrowhead lodged in his back suggest a more violent death

Unfortunately, they are not in the most accessible area to facilitate rescue quickly or easily.

Moving from the area where quakes can happen is a bit short sighted. I am not sure you can leave that many square miles unpopulated in any country. New Orleans is the only portion I would modify the rebuilding plan based upon likely problems. The old crescent city is the only land I would protect with levees.

Avoiding an earth quake requires much larger swath of land be left un-inhabited.
