Awesome? Why, are you a Texas lawyer? Because they're the only ones who will get a dime out of this.

    Otherwise, you get squat!!

    We get squat?? NOt exactly.

Sony will be hit in the pockets by this lawsuit and the only real way to hurt a corporation as large as SONY is to hit them in the wallet. I FOR ONE agree with the lawsuit.

If it only makes the lawyers richer I will be saddened, but I want SONY punished for putting hackerware on innocent peoples' computers. IF Sony were apologetic, or if the music industry said that Sony did something wrong, I might be willing to let is slide, but they DID NOT!! THEY defended their stance saying that they HAD TO COVERTLY INSTALL HACKERWARE on the computers of the people who actually trusted them to put out music.

I FOR ONE will never buy SONY-BMG again, but that is such a loss I am not a real music lover, and I have less that 100 music CD-roms since they first came out in the '80s. Thousands of people have bought these hacked CDs and many thousands of computers are now vulnerable to the exploits that can use the rootkit. Also the musicians who DID NOT give Sony-BMG permission to put hackerware on the CDs are talking about a lawsuit- we dont know if it will happen or not but it IS being talked about. I wouldnt blame ANY of the musician whose music career is damaged by this incident for sueing SONY-BMG.

So IF I never see a penny, but it costs SONY-BMG millions, I am for it.

    BTW:
One class-action lawsuit against Sony BMG Music Entertainment has been filed in California, and more are expected as lawyers enter the Sony rootkit-as-copy-protection fray

So its Texas and California(and I hope more states).

    While I am ranting:
if purchasers declare personal bankruptcy, the EULA requires them to delete any digital copies on their computers or portable music players. The same is true if a customer's house gets burglarized and his CDs stolen, since the EULA allows purchasers to keep copies only so long as they retain physical possession of the original CD.

Do you really believe that defending the consumer is crazy, and pointless?

I didn't think about that before. If a lot of us go boycotting these CD's, the musicians lose money, and it's Sony's fault because of the rootkit!

I really think musicians should sue but on what legal basis?

The well informed consumer is the best defense against stupid companies. Vote with your feet!!

But taking money from Sony to pay lawyers, who will throw a few crumbs to consumers, doesn't help anyone but the slimy lawyers.

I agree, but the reality is that the media is the main way for the information to get to the "great uninformed masses", but the media is pretty much controlled by who, You ask, thats right by the big corporations like Sony-BMG, Ford, and Chevy. Let me ask you, how many products were recalled last week(just last week)?
How many just food products recalled?

But taking money from Sony to pay lawyers, who will throw a few crumbs to consumers, doesn't help anyone but the slimy lawyers.
I agree up to a point. What method do you suggest that will prevent this from happening again? I cant think of anything other than hitting Sony in the pockets.
