"Cyber Monday" was a marketing ploy [gasp!]

I'm sure this will come as a surprise to no one, but all the hype there was about "Cyber Monday" was all contrived BS. Total lie. The truth is the Monday after "Black Friday" is the 12th largest online shopping day. 12th! Not 1st. But I hope everyone noticed how our media took this fabricated marketing ploy and reported it ad nauseam as if it were a concrete fact.

Quote:
Contrary to what the recent blitz of media coverage implies, Cyber Monday isn't nearly the biggest online shopping or spending day of the year. It ranks only as the 12th-biggest day historically, according to market researcher comScore Networks. It's not even the first big day of the season. For most online retailers, the bigger spending day of the season to date was way back on Nov. 22, three days before Black Friday. What's more, most e-tailers say the season's top spending day comes much later, between around Dec. 5 and Dec. 15..

Business Week - Cyber Monday, Marketing Myth

If this doesn't demonstrate just how worthless our mainstream media has become I don't know what will.

I have never heard of "Cyber Monday" until this thread.

I hate being behind on this sort of information.

Please tell me who else has heard of the ficticious information, and why anyone would listen to it.

I looked for deals on that Monday and i didn't see any that weren't the same as the usual weekly specials. Yup, it was BS.

I called my wife when I found out about "Black Monday" and there didn't seem to be any great deals, and precious little came up under a Google search...

Scam dammers!

I heard the words Cyber Monday mentioned as I walked by the new. I just thought to myself "that's bs, there is no way to have a cyber shopping event like black Friday, the servers can't take it". And figured someone that didn't have a clue wrote the bs blurb.

I have been hearing about "Cyber Monday" through mainstream media outlets, including television news networks and even broadcast radio. I have been handling Internet marketing for three years now, and I have never heard of such an event until this year. As expected, it was nothing more than a marketing push to spur sales on nonexistent deals. If anyone stopped by RR on Monday, we had several deals posts, but nothing really out of the ordinary.
