    life sucks......

There is nothing like your first injury ever ,when you are in your thirties to make you feel as old as you are........or older.

So I am at PT on Monday.......we do our regulatory calistenics for 1/2 hour....we run ~1.25 miles....everything is okay.

We decide to play some football.......pt fun-time.......and then out of nowhere........BAM!........I drop like a sack of rocks. The most disconcerting grinding, popping, scraping sound eminates from my knee.

Holy mother of Jesus! A pain like I have never felt EVER!!! I swear it was worse than child birth! My knee popped straight out from the side and when I hit the ground.......straight back in. WOW!!!! That hurts!!!! Needless to say, I am on some Vicodine. That is some stellar stuff there. Mmmmmmm....................Vicodine. Pair that with a few beers and some wine and the pain, miraculously, disappears. I feel so bad for Martoch. I know I am a pain to care for.

Well, I pretty much just wanted to babble. Thanks for listening.

Pray for Martoch, BTW......he has been a Saint, but I fear I am a bit overbearing. Thank you Mike. You are my hero........I promise.

    I would have prescribed Oxycontin...

    Or cannabis sativa.

    Feel better soon.

Aw heck, Martoch's gotta be loving your resolve to stay in shape.

As we all know, he's a big fat slob who, between laying on the sofa, watching the Three Stooges and wolfing down Chee-Tos, sends fan letters to Jabba The Hutt, praising him for his...

...Arrrgghh, okay sorry, kiddo. Just trying to make some fun. A knee injury is nothing to laugh at.

We also know Mike will love you and keep you and call you George. (sorry, I'm just out of control tonight... )

Just take care of that knee, Moo, and heal, sister.

OMG, I totally missed Smidley's reference to Cannibis... (How'd you see that, Harder?)

But as long as we're discussing this, I know a woman, a triathlon-er type, nearing the age of 50, who really busted her knee up in a work-related accident.

Cynthia is an amazingly fit and robust woman; and she has NEVER had any interest in drugs or booze or such in her life. But her knee pain was so bad that she almost went broke going to various specialist (quack) Doktors, seeking relief from the pain....

Anyway, her regular Doc gave her a prescription for medicinal Marijuana, and it seems to be just the ticket. She smokes a little before bedtime, and says that it enables her to sleep at night. She likes to stay "straight" during the day; but apparently, the lay-over effect is efficacious in helping her through her workday.
    __________________________________________________ ____

Way back when, I used to get high, but curtailed that jazz in my mid-20's. I never experienced using Marijuana for pain, but apparently, it can be quite effective.

Our late friend, TheKingOfPain, was an advocate of this (medicinal Marijuana).

Once, I had terrible back pain (even started a thread here so I could bitch and moan about it) and he saw it and dropped by and gave me a little taste.

Dang, it worked like MAGIC! I was quite surprised at the efficacy of pot in dealing with pain, I just never knew!

Now it is my opinion that Marijuana, applied sparingly, combined with a gentle regimen of physical therapy, will get you through this trial. Let's face it, it's hard to heal a knee. You WALK with it!

Again, wishing you the best, Moo, and please take this (rather unorthodox) advice seriously. I've personally observed it to be good practice.

    A saint???

Not me...she reminded me of how she cried the entire drive home from Sam's Club after I drove away before her door was closed, forcing her crutches to smack her in the head.

I'm not proud of it, but I certainly don't want to be misrepresented here. I'm sorry guys, but I deserve "you jerk" PM's more than anything else.

Are you guys tired of reading about our problems?

I have found the correct cocktail for my pain relief is one Vicodine and one 800 mg (cure-all) Motrin. Anyone military here knows what the 800 mg Motrin does. The military thinks it is a wonder drug and they prescribe it for everything. They must have a mountain of that stuff at the pharmacy!

Anyway, I have been put on profile for a week and I know I won't be ready to run on Monday!!! Thank heavens it is a holiday and there won't be any pt.

At least my foot doesn't feel like a 20 lb weight pulling down on my knee any more. I just can't put ANY weight on my knee just yet.

Yeah......this is definitely worse than child birth. I didn't let out a string of fluent "French" like that when I had babies. I'll have to make sure I apologize to the others that were there to hear that while at work tomorrow. That was very unprofessional. Heheheh, you could tell by the look on their faces that they weren't expecting words like that to come out of my mouth............geez.

Lol, that's one of the main purposes of those words. I you don't say an improvised prayer in French when it happens, then the instant pain is greater. The pain prayer is usually answered by a rush of adrenaline to help mask the hurt.
And I thought I was unfortunate when my leg cramped as I stretched in bed and I had to go to work with the dull pain in my muscle to remind me of it.
Get well soo, Moo. And play it up to keep Mikey on his toes and feeling useful.

They give us enlisted people motrin. No matter what kind of pain it is.

What's wrong with you guys? Recommending dope for pain relief?

    Ouch moo

Hope it gtes to feel better real soon.... have you considered getting a cast for your knee? a nuisance, but it oddly really helps on the pain relief side.

Motrin, including Motrin 800, doesn't do anything for me.

I have a very high pain threshold, so when I do complain about pain . . . they gave me Orudis 75's or Indocin. When I seperated my shoulder, they gave me the Demerol.

I think there is a Motrin salesman that retired on the miltary account

That's what they gave me when I broke my leg ( fractured it ), and that's what they gave my buddy for his knee.

I think they give it out for migrains too

At any rate, I sure hope I don't end up with a knee injury like that ( though I can feel the knees now at 33 much more than I did running on them all day long at 20 ).

Get better Moo, and it's only fair that Mortick gets to pamper you for once

Yeah, my friend separated his shoulder and they gave him motrin. Another got motrin for a broken jaw. I got motrin for my wisdom teeth (all four) and the ensuing dry socket. I swear, they do the bear minimum and whatever is cheapest.

Maybe it's because they care about the Infantry and treat them right when it comes to medical. (I will also tell you that there used to be arguments about who was served the worst food, Army or Marines . . . but for some reason, we seem to be getting food on par with the Air Force and Navy now. )

    After all, everyone else is a dime a dozen . . .

So the Vicodin did nothing to ease the pain...... I got a new supply of 800 mg Motrin today (whoopee). I can't wait to see what the MRI turns up tomorrow. It is to the point that my leg only has about 30 degrees of mobility. It won't go straight and it won't bend any farther. The doc today said he thinks I tore some ligaments and damaged some cartilidge (sp?). One of my co-workers is betting I will need surgery. I measured my knees this morning and the hurt one is a full inch bigger than the other. Well, I guess we will see what the Orthopedist says on Thursday.
I sure hope he extends my profile, otherwise I will have to do that 1 1/2 mile run on this stupid broke knee next month.
