I failed the Hogan Personality Test on Monday.
I'm on my way to being hired to work for Cox cable in our area and I'm required to take the Hogan Personality Test on Monday morning. Do any of you have any info (other than what a google search would provide) on it? Anyone here ever taken it?
The Human Resources Recruiter tells me that the test has proven a lot of potential employees unfit for the job. Hmmm...any thoughts on this?

I had to take it twice in one day once for two seperate job interviews. Just be honest and try not to make yourself look good by answering the questions the way you think they want to hear. It will show.
I got offered both jobs so I know i did well. I always wanted to compare the results of both tests to see how close they were.

Expect a few hundred questions like:
"I am interested in Greek Mythology"
"I often think my life has no meaning"
If you dont pass you may not get the job. They say technology slows down for no one. I know it outruns my wallet. I figure its because my wallet isn't light enough yet.

Funny you should mention the uncapping...I was wondering if I'll get a free upgrade to the 9MB cable connection available here. Right now we're on the 4MB plan.

I dont remember much. There are a lot of questions that are easy to answer and many are repetitive questions that are written slightly different.
I remember being asked how I would handle a situation if I saw a fellow employee stealing something on the job.
A. Report them
B. Pretend I didnt see anything
C. Make them share the loot
There was a lot of situational questions but nothing real personal.

Here are the categories that are measured. I dont see you having a problem with any of them. Like I said above, just be honest and dont try and beat the system.
Adjustment: confidence, self-esteem,
and composure under pressure.
Ambition: initiative, competitiveness,
and leadership potential.
Sociability: extraversion, gregariousness,
and a need for social interaction.
Interpersonal Sensitivity: warmth,
charm, and ability to maintain relationships.
Prudence: responsibility, self-control,
Inquisitive: imagination, curiosity, and
Learning Approach: the degree to which
a person is achievement-oriented and stays
up-to-date on business and technical

What should you expect? Failure?
Nah, I'm messin'. I wouldn't worry about it. You seem like a fairly stable, happy, and - dare I say it? - normal guy. Maybe if you're lucky they'll have you take a semen test.

Is this to find out if you have a personality?
Most jobs in the U.K. only require that you be able to find your way to your workplace, and I still see lots of people on the bus struggling with that. Mind you, these are usually Eastern Bloc or African refugees and emigres fresh to the U.K.
I have never seen this personality test in a job application before. Sounds like major amounts of fun.

I had to take the test one time.... I didn't get hired - but I guess I was to much of a Hard @$$ on most of the questions..... I think IMO the test is STUPID and it takes up to much time. Esp. if you have more than a couple job interviews that day.

Sorry to hear that, Sweeper.
Did you ever find out the results of the tests or did they simply just tell you that you and the job weren't made for one another?~ Camp Crystal Lake counselor positions opening daily ~

They never called back. I called to check on the job and they just kept telling me they would call me. Oh well, I found a better one anyway. The test is really a waste of time IMO. So many questions and it's such a waste of time. I'm not sure what they compare it to, but, as stated above the questions are very odd.

There is a legal concern by Companies that use such tests that should they be sued for illegal discrimination, that they will have to show that the Test has Predictive Validity --i.e. can cull out those who probably will do well on the job from those who won't.
Hence, the Normative "Correct" Answers are those given by those who have succeeded in similar types of employment. This can then be used to demonstrate the so-called predictive validity of test, which is desirable from a legal stance, should that ever be necessary.
Also, research has shown that Interviews alone are not very good at selection of employees.
Sorry, I'm not familiar with this particular test and whether it favors the "socially correct" answers (such 'I'd report a co-worker thief') or the real-world don't make waves actions (such as 'I'd avoid seeing it"), but most likely as per above compares you to a "Sucessful Group". --whatever that is.
My guess is that many questions are there to identify psychopathology, but these tend to be obvious.
Since you can't control taking the test, best not to worry about it.
PS. Will you take off your Hockey mask and let them see your Halloween mask for the Interview?FIRST TEN YEARS ANNIVERSARY HONOR ROLLthis April 18th, 2014 and will be Officially Celebrated That Day! SEE http://www.techimo.com/forum/imo-com...ml#post1070600
