Does anyone still use VHS taps?
The reason I ask is I was thinking of selling some somewhere if possible probably 40-50 tapes I recently was given.
Should I even bother or just give them to the goodwill for some poor sap?Everyone looks for a purpose in life. Some of us never find it.

I think they charge a % based on how much you sell for. I bet ebay has a FAQ with everything you wanna know

There is a flat tiered rate they charge.
Not sure what the tiers are, but its based on the selling price.

They have an insertion fee and a final value fee, both of which are based on the price you set. Shipping actually wouldn't be too bad on them because you could ship them using the Media Mail rate at the USPS.
And yeah, I still use VHS tapes regularly to tape my favorite shows...

Why not sell them on Craigslist...no charge for using the site, could sell locally so no shipping.
My wife uses VHS tapes to record her favorite Soap Operas while she is at work. The Beatings Will Stop When Morale Improves

And if you're not terribly greedy, find a freecycle forum. We're on one (it's a Yahoo group) and it's simple: You post stuff to give away. PERIOD. No trading, no money.
It was started so the help people's "junk" from ending up in landfils.
I've donated old computer parts (a guy was setting them up for a school), a small pool (you should have seen the look on the 2 twin girls getting the pool!). I've gotten an old porch glider (rocking couch) that I restored and a bunch of windows that my wife uses the glass for stained glass projects.
People also post "wants" to, but as anything public, it can get carried away, for example: "My grandmother is 68 and her eyesight is failing; she needs a 52" TV". Yeah, right

I have bought some VHS because the movies are (or were not at the time) offered on DVD. The last one I bought was last year, "Ballad of Gregorio Cortez."

I was selling NEW VHS on Ebay for a while, but have recently stopped. You may want to do a quick search for each title, as you may have a few jewels that are worth $5-20. But for the most part I have ceased because sales have declined to the point where I will not make enough to cover the listing and FV fees. Even getting my tapes for less than $1.25 each on average new, I've devoured most of my titles capable of any reasonable return after Ebay's & PayPal's cut.
I am going to watch the rest of my tapes, lend them to family members, and then donate them to the library. I highly recommend donating them to a library if they are in good shape.

Selling my tapes on Ebay:
Listing for $.99 + $3 shipping & handling (for first title)
$.25 to list for $.99
$.05 final value fee if sold
$.42 PayPal fees
$.15 packing materials
$1.59 to media mail postage
--------
$2.46 to them
$1.20 item cost
--------
$3.66 cost of $3.99 sale price = $.33 profit
yeeeaah, and those are factory sealed new tapes. Most sold for better earlier on, but most of what I have left would result in $.33 profit IF they sell within the first two listings, otherwise I loose $.50 off the top for two failed listings. Not an effecient wage, eh. So there are some numbers for ya. Low priced items aren't worth the time on Ebay.Last edited by SiliconJon; February 15th, 2006 at 04:44 PM.

Thanks for the extensive response, it's much appreciated! I'm definitely going to look at all these options. Do you think the prices of the 660, 660ti or 7870 will drop when the new cards come out?
