| Which is more valuable to you - money or free time?
I ask this because I just got switched shifts at work to the one I asked for when I applied (1:30 - 10pm).
First day on that shift I finish up several hours before I leave, so I found this other guy that needed help. Got to talking with him and it turns out he owns two other businesses - one he does powerwashing of houses, the other is a moving company. Both have employees working under him.
Ended up giving him my number since he might take me on one or both of those jobs, and it got me thinking... how much free time do I have already? If I took on those two other part-time jobs, what would it leave me with? I'd have more money, but less free time.
For me, it might just work out better. I need to get another car and I also love computers. My PC is an expensive hobby and I can play with it just about whenever I feel like. It's not like, say, golf, which requires preparation and an available course.
So what would you do? Work a lot, get more money, but lose your dinking around time? Or pass on that, keep what you have and be happy with it? |

I have no idea, I am broke and never have any fee time.
dump your booze for money, you can always kick it later when you own the things you need and have money socked away in the bank. |

He said dinking around not drinking, Auntie. Time is finite. Carpe Diem and find the balance that makes you happy. Priorities will shift as you get older too. |

I have discovered since I have aquired a few more decades under my belt, that free time is much more valuable than the money. Now I give the extra hours to the younger workers and do absoutley NO side work anymore. With a year and 10 months to retirement,I just have to get my 435 work hours per year to be vested for retirement |

Does that mean you aren't interested in doing a little work for me in the new house, draboo?
Free time wins. Money is nice, but you can't buy hobbies. |

I'm not sure how to answer the free time part, but think of it this way. With the schedule you have now how are you going to fit in a part time job? If thats a full time gig you would be doing side jobs before work right or if its a part time thing you'd just be doing work on your days off.
Well with a schedule like that you'll find that free time can be more valuable than the money. I'm not sure what most of your friends do and what their schedules are like, but in my case when I was working 3pm-12am I never had time to see friends. All my time during the day was spent trying to take care of business.

RicheemxX - what friends?
I still have time to fit in a little bit of extra work on the weekends and before I go to my real job. |

Time; a precious, non-renewable commodity, thus more valuable than money (because money can be made at any time.) A divergent perspective: Time is money! |

I have been offered several weekend jobs, even though I work full time already (sometimes up to 60hrs per week). Nurses are in demand here, so I could probably work as much as I could want. My employer will allow it provided it doesn't interfere with my work here.
But money isn't really everything. I get a good salary, so I don't have to work extra to get by. But the time I would lose with my family and my fun stuff (read: computers ) if I worked extra would very much make me a dull and unhappy boy.
Incidentally, my missus just moved jobs, decreased her hours and gets a day off per week at a job that's closer to home. Doesn't work because she has to, but because she wants to, so she can pick and choose a bit. And free time wins over more money for her.
Cheers
Mick
