OK to want to hurt somebody?

Alright... Before you jump on me about how wrong I am to open a thread like this, hear me out.

I want to induce mass pain to the guy that invented the puny little SATA connectors.

I've got a few users that decided to throw some superglue on the things to get them to stay put on their personal hard drives, and suprize suprize the glue ended up covering the contacts of the drive and then it became my problem.

Easy fix, but man oh' man - whoever decided to go with the "wimpy" style connector needs to be tarred and feathered or something. ANYTHING a little more robust would be nice.

    Sorry to rant.
And thus it was spoken by the mighty Uss. And it was so.

yeah.. i agree.. they don't stay on very well.. and i have had one brake for no apparent reason.. now... superglueing the things on would be my last choice..lol ..

i find the SATA cables are very "hard" material.. maybe if they were a bit more flexible... or softer material.. it wouldn't be so bad....

Nah...it's only OK to hurt someone if you HAVE to.

But...these idiots have given you job stability, because the idiotic design the idiots who use superglue on electrical connectors have given you work to get paid for.

    Be happy.

Deballing seems like a suitable punishment. I broke one on an almost new Raptor drive. Had a hard time controlling my temper. I do use a small dab of hot melt glue these days. After the cable is plugged in of course. The cable just lives on that drive for the rest of its life. They can still be removed with a razor knife if necessary. If you are in and out of the computer a lot, as I am, its just simply to easy to break one.

I've never had one break... then again, I kind of take it easy when I'm working inside a box... Never had one fail to stay connected either. There's not really all that much movement happening in there, I can't see how it would come out after you've closed the cover. And if you route the cables properly you shouldn't hook them when you're working on it.

While I haven't had any trouble with Sata connectors they really should be a bit more robust, and lock more securely.

At our shop, we use after market that have the built in metal clip.

Once they're pushed in, they lock and don't come off unless you pinch the melal clip down and then putll them out.

Life must be good when our biggest complaint is the size of our hard drive connectors.

I bought 2 Raptors when they first came out. They were not cheap. The connector was but the drive wasn't. When you break one you are out the drive because the manufacturers will tell you TS, buy another one if you want one bad enough. That's when I learned to repair and use a dab of hot melt glue. It's still working to this day, but I'm taking all precautions with those cheesy connectors. I think all the drive manufacturers got together and come up with that connector with the idea of selling more drives.

That sounds good, are those available to anybody? If so, do you have a link?

ahem.......my biggest complaint would definetly not be the size of my hard drive connector, but the size of my JOHNSON!.

    I think I've been short-changed! lol

ps. the designer of that connector should definetly be shot. We waited 8 years for that?
