birthday celebration idea
I have a friend who has an eating disorder and her birthday is coming up on Wed. Does anyone have any ideas on how we can celebrate with her without food? She won't eat outside of her plan, which I admire, wish I had 1/4 of her control. I would like to make her feel as special as she is. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks to all in advance. Rubyred

Day spa! Get the works - massage, manicure, pedicure, facial, hair and makeup, preferably tea will be served. Check out spas in your area; could include hot springs, mudbaths, just some all over pampering etc.

Awww, Ruby, you're a good friend to this lady!
By which I mean, exposing yourself to the insane imprecations of this Community in your quest for ideas to honor her. I salute your fearlessness!

Okay: Do you have a miniature golf place nearby? It sounds stupid at first blush, but I have noticed that this is a very under-appreciated source of fun for parties of people. (Especially when it involves water balloons, but then again, you're in da Yooper land; so maybe not.)
People usually have the idea that it's stupid, then they get into it and have a great time..especially because the conversation gets so ribald. Try it, you'll see!

knothead,
you have a great idea about the golf except we live in the middle of snow country and it would be hard to find the golf ball.
I have decided on a spa idea. We do not have a spa available but I do have some spa equipment here at home. My plan includes a foot bath, a manicure, and a facial treatment.
The beer idea isn't a good one since we are all recovering alcoholics also. Thanks for the ideas. I am off to make some homemade spa soak.

If the Spa idea goes through, could get some relaxing music and maybe a movie to watch.
Snow..... Snowman? Snow Angels? Snow ball fight?

A party thing my cousin introduced to me recently was a DVD white elephant gift exchange. Everyone brings one used DVD and wraps it. The object is for everyone to try to bring the worse DVD they own or can find. As every participant picks one they can open it or trade the unopened DVD in hand for someone elses. Once any DVD has been traded twice it is 'dead' and can no longer be traded. It's even funnier when there's a good mix of guy and girls. You get to watch the guy 'B movie' action flicks go around along with the 'chick flicks' as everyone tries to dodge their worse nightmare.
Good way to rotate the bottom end of your DVD collection!
