Mike
Nah...I'll never throw in the towel...seeing all of the out of shape guys around here keeps me from looking that way.

It is getting pretty hot in the garage now though...the fan just isn't cutting it when it's 90F+ outside. I can't tell you the last time I went for a run...it's too hot outside (I can't do morning runs).

July 3rd, 2006, 09:46 PM #225Exactly why i'm finding it harder to get into shape here as well. I love biking and jogging, but when it's roasting out like this, it's just too hot to even move outside at all.

Anyways, after a few monthes of lifting almost daily, i'm finally starting to get the results I was aiming for, atleast strength wise. Arms are looking much more toned though aswell.
I need to step up from these 25lb hand dumbells (if that's even what you call them?) they are simply not enough anymore.
Oh yea, can anyone recomend me a site that has a bunch of "equipment free" excercises that work out muscles you normally don't build up by the standard running/biking/lifting/swimming.Main PC: AMD FX-8350 / 16gb DDR3 1600 / AMD 7970GE 1200mhz Core & 1600mhz Mem / Win7 Pro 64bit

Just curious what you thought about it, is it worth getting or not really? From what i understand it makes you less sore. And do you take it with creatine or alone?

I know many lifters that swear by it.
I can't really say that it does work or doesn't work because it's not something that you feel or see. It's something I take because of the science behind it, and I believe that. To me, it's the same logic I use as to why I take protein powder.
As you may already know, glutamine is naturally produced in the body and is stored inside your muscles. Glutamine is not only used by your muscles, but also by other tissues and to maintain your immune system. What it also does is helps metabolise proteins. By supplementing your body with glutamine, you would avoid robbing the glutamine stored inside your muscles, which when robbed, start to breakdown.
Basically, it improves protein metabolism and minimizes catabolism.

HIIT Training?
Anyone ever try HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training)? I'm going to try it and see how it works for me...I've been reading up on a bunch of fitness/muscle forums and it's highly recommended by the experienced folks.

I'd prefer shorter, more effective cardio workouts over 20-30 minute workouts if they produce good results.

It's just that I absolutely HATE to run, so even if the sprint/job thing wears me out at first, at least I only have to endure it for 4 minutes the first week.

The reason that High Intensity Interval Training works better for fat loss is this: When you do a cardio session at the same pace the whole time, your body goes into what is called steady state. This means that your body has adjusted itself to the speed you are going and tries hard to conserve energy (calories). You will be able to avoid this and burn more calories and FAT by doing the interval training.

I really hate running too Martoch, so what I do for cardio is ride my bike. I avoid running at all costs. Seriously. LOL.

Riding a bike here makes me sweat, but I don't think I keep my heart rate high enough to burn the bad stuff away. HIIT is going to kill me at first because I haven't been doing any running lately, but I'm a fast sprinter so I'll probably wear myself out in less than 4 minutes.

Oh yeah, HIIT training ftw!
From askmen.com, http://www.askmen.com/sports/bodybui...tness_tip.html
How does this [HIIT] apply to you?
This means that you will be burning up to nine times more fat while sitting on the couch later that night than you would have if you had spent an hour on the treadmill at a moderate pace.
