Please, THINK of the farmers before you pirate movies!

NBC wants us to think of the farmers before we pirate movies.
"In the absence of movie piracy, video retailers would sell and rent more titles. Movie theatres would sell more tickets and popcorn. Corn growers would earn greater profits and buy more farm equipment."

    (Emphasis mine)

    I agree with this statement:
In the absence of movie piracy, video retailers would sell and rent more titles.
But I have no clue how they come up with this:
Movie theatres would sell more tickets and popcorn.

As Public Knowledge points out, first off, movie theaters are doing great this year, suggesting the big "threat" of piracy had a lot less to do with its troubles than the fact that it just didn't have that many compelling movies the past few years. Also, corn farmers are doing quite well (and people still eat popcorn at home while watching pirated movies).

    Hello,
I usually won't insult anybody...but I'll make an exception. Rick Cotton is a dumb ass. He made an earlier statement that law enforcement needs to spend more money on fighting piracy, instead of catching burglars, and bank robbers. So now he wants us to think of the farmers before we pirate movies. I don't know why he's complaining, according to the MPAA they are doing very well for movies sales in theaters. Maybe because they are finally making/showing movies that people want to flock to see, instead of trash. Take Care.

Just remember people. Every time you "borrow" a movie from your "friends" God kills a farmer.

Thanks to the federal government forcing all of us to pump ethanol into our vehicles, the corn farmers are doing quite well, not to mention the recently passed energy bill increasing fuel economy requirements.

The legislation provides a bonanza to farmers and the ethanol industry. It requires ethanol production to grow to at least 36 billion gallon a year by 2022, a sevenfold increase of the amount of ethanol processed last year.
So a little less popcorn is not impacting these guys one bit.
