Hello,
You won't be able to work legally for the two weeks that you are there, unless you get a work permit. However, that doesn't mean that you can't work illegally. I wouldn't suggest it, just in case of getting caught. Right now it seems that the UK government is cracking down on a lot of things, and one of them is illegal citizens living/working in the UK. Take Care. |

Actually, never mind that.
Hotels in London are not as expensive as I thought, $75 a night would work fine if I stayed there for a week.
How much should I expect to pay for food every day there? Figure that I am eating out for 2 meals a day while I am there.
For the plane ticket and hotel it is coming at about $1325 so far to stay a week.
Plus, I really wouldn't want to work there anyways while I stay. |

I was gonna suggest go-today.com to get cheap tickets and decent hotel/living accommodation's. (of course these for for those just wanting to vacation, not try to stay there)
Im curious on why you want to move to London for php work? Is there a big need for them over there? |

Well, it had quite a few positions open for PHP developers.
Mostly I just want to live in a big city with a good tech community, and preferably, not in the US. |

go-today.com is a great site from the looks of things so far!
Thanks.
EDIT: And even a 5 day Tokyo vacation from $1,000! Thats cheaper than the cost of plane tickets alone from what I have seen!

But there are tons of equally big cities right here in the US that can offer you jobs. I'm telling you right now, it will not be easy at all to get accustomed to another country, let alone going from living with the rents in Wisconsin to supporting yourself all alone thousands of miles away in another continent.
If you know this and still want to go through with it, you've either got major balls or are completely crazy.

I know it will be hard to get used to and will cost a lot (heck, I live with my parents yet). But I have no doubt that I can make it as long as I can find a job. After I find a good job I can work on getting used to the community and getting involved.
I will look into what MS is doing in Vancouver, maybe I could start out with them and get some training while I work there (I would probably switch over to C++ development if I worked for them). Vancouver looks expensive, but it isn't too awful high... |

Hello,
Just to give you a heads-up...don't travel to the U.K. in August, that is the most expensive time that you can go. Besides everything is shutdown pretty much, so if you trying to find something for a job, you maybe up S***'s Creek without a paddle. Take Care. |
