$4.50 per Gallon Gas Incites Motorists' Fury
Labor Day weekend is starting, and it appears at least one gas station in Orlando is hoping to "cash in" by targeting the tourists and other travelers with $4.50 per gallon gasoline.

The station has skipped on using roadside signs, instead opting to only show the price at the pump. For those pondering why a store would even think about charging such a ridiculous price compared to the national average, the store is the closest gas station to the Hertz and Thrifty car rental stores near the Orlando International Airport.
WKMG asked station manager Bob Barnes how he can get away with charging the prices when other gas stations are charging $2.60 or $2.70 a gallon.
"Well, mainly it is volume," Barnes said. "As you can see, the pumps are practically full. Everybody knows what the price is because they have to hit the little lever and they see the price above the lever. And that is how you get away with it."

All gas stations close to car rental places charge more, but that's insane.
You can't fix stupidity.

In California you are required to have a outside sign of large numbers.
I think they can drop the "Point 9" though, as in 2.989 per gallon.
The way to fight this is to notify the brand owner - Shell, Chevron, etc. and tell them you will never buy another gallon of their gas, anywhere, ever.Obama: The rich have the Federal Reserve and the poor have Harry Reid... LOL. Life really is unfair!

You people are you satisfied with this kind of world? I'm not.

We have anti-price gouging laws in Florida, but they are typically only enacted under a declared state of emergency AFAIK.

Well I dont know, I've lived in California most of my life so I do not know about any laws on the East Coast.
Right now gas in $3.08 for regular and thats the cheapest, but 80 miles to the east or west and its atleast $0.25 cheaper.Last edited by Shipuuden; August 31st, 2007 at 01:06 AM.

Silly Rabbit, Tricks are for kids.
I would think they would lose money this way. Even though they will make 20x more profit per person, there will most likely be 95% less customers than a regular gas station.

Supply and demand. If people want to queue up for $4.50 gas, what's the problem?
We have an Exxon station in the town where I work that is charging $3.50/gal. Why should I care? I have other choices.

The problem is before you drive up to a station to get gas, you know the price on the big station sign that can be seen easily. This guy is capitalizing on assumption of price. People have to get gas to fill up the rental when they return it, and pull up to the gas station because they usually fill up closest to the rental place. Problem is, they assume the price will be similar to what the average is from what they see driving around town, and just plug the car in and start filling. It's usually only after a few seconds, or when the price per gallon comes up on the screen that they figure out what is going on.
this post contains small bits of intelligence culminating to the appearance of wisdom.
