Check out the Buyer's Assurance Plan offered by American Express. AFAIK, the standard terms are an additional year of protection on items up to $10,000 in value, with Amex holding the decision on repair, replacement, or refund - up to the cost of the product. Considering most electronics have an one-year warranty, the Buyer's Assurance Plan should double coverage to two years.

There are also several companies like BrandSource that let you buy home entertainment stuffs and offer their own warranty, up to five years, and often have no money/no interest etc etc. We sell quite a few large sets on GeCaf and most will take the five year warranty as it covers more things than the manufacturer's warranty.

Just to throw my 2 cents in I was at Tiger Direct today and i was checking out a 42" Viszio for $699 I must say the picture looked pretty darn good compared to a Sharp, and a Sony right next to it. The Olevia on the other hand looked kind of dark to me but that could be just the way they had it set.

I didn't mean to imply that they were bad sets. Vizio is the best selling LCD brand for a reason, they make decent sets at seriously good prices. What I was getting at, is that if you're gonna be using this along time and if something goes wrong the warranty on some cheaper sets give it a "disposable" quality. Take a look at this article it'll give you an idea what I'm talking about.
