Why is our library so lame?

Yes that's right, absolutely gay.

Here i sit at a 17 inch monitor at a massive 800X600.

I think I'm going to die pretty soon. How do they expect me to be able to do research at this resolution?

I don't think i'd be so mad, but as of 15 minutes ago I turned that bad boy up to 1280X1024 and was soaring along. Had to go get a book though so I set it back and went off.

When I came back 20 minutes later now I can't change it. Seems that right-click is disabled. Couldn't telnet either since no run in the start menu and win-R wouldn't work.

Luckily they aren't too smart so I just went into the temp drive shortcut -> up a level and right into C:\ where Ipromptly went and ran cmd.exe.

Unfortunately they won't let me run control.exe or desk.cpl

Communists, so I guess it's 800X600 for me. Grrrrrr. Stupid win2k

Perhaps you should get some more sleep?

First, what does being "gay" have to do with system administrators setting permissions on the machines they are responsible for?

Second, it's not a good idea to bypass administrative controls. Regardless your displeasure, I fully agree with limiting student access to the configuration settings of PUBLIC computers.

Perhaps you should make a request the head of that department to consider raising the resolution?

I slept all afternoon so I could study all night

My use of "gay" was not a term of sexual preference of a indiviual, but an expression of displeasure over the overall situation. I take it you don't use it that way?

It's just pretty lame that I was able to do it 15 minutes ago without a hitch and now I can't even right click anything.

Quick question, am I bypassing controls if it allows me to do it? I mean they put the shortcut on the desktop, the up folder is there, c:\ is wide open to access. So am I bypassing anything by going in and manually finding what I'm looking for instead of relying on a keyboard shortcut?

Also I definately agree with locking down public machines. You have to or either idiots or malicious people will come in and work thier magic.

There are some frowny people in this thread =(

Everyone needs to get happy and gay!!! =)
C'mon folks be gay.

You should count yourself lucky to be browsing at 800x600. Why when I was a kid, the library didn't have computers. We did have windows though! Got to watch traffic drive by as we filed through the card catalog. Plus we had to walk through 3 feet of snow to get there... barefoot... uphill both ways!

=)

Yeah, when I was a kid we didn't have fancy schmancy computers. We had sticks and rocks...and we liked it! Boy I need some sleep, I'm straight silly 2nite!

I agree with Fingers, I'm the System Admin for about 35-40 computers at work...I'm military BTW...and I can't believe the kinds of junk that people download/install! For instance...my boss asks me to fix his printing problem, sure no problem boss...I start his computer up and MSN Messenger pops up and is full of his family contacts! And he has the nerve to tell the lower ranking folks that they can't surf the internet during duty hours! I don't think so...

Nah...Just Smarter than you admin's ... and it can and will most likely be a "fight" between the system admin's and a select group of students. Basically while your using a computer that you do not own run it by "their" rules or lose access.
