| Craigslist seller...........(scam?)
I get this: Quote:
Hello,
I have received your email regarding my car.
The car is in perfect condition, with no scratches on it,no damage.
The price for the car is $2200 USD. The car was my husband`s as he loved it very much, but he did not enjoy it as he died in a IRAQ 4 month ago. It brings very bad memories to me, I want to get rid of it. The buyer will receive the car with all papers and receipts that he needs to register it to his name.I moved to Montana,Helena at my parents to forget and to break any connections that would remember about my loss, The car is here with me, and it will be shipped from here. Shipping will take no more then 5-6
days. I will manage the shipping price and I assumed that it is my duty to pay for shipping it.It will be delivered directly to your address.
Anyway, I have to let you know that I want a fast deal so if you are really interested in buying it please reply with the following information's:
-Your full name;
-Full Address
The transaction will close only through a purchase protection program so we both will be
protected.I will look for your email,so that we can move forward with this deal!
Let me know,
Jennifer

...and another?? Quote:
Hello,
If you are interested in my 2001 Mitsubishi Galant,it is in perfect
condition, with no need for additional repairs, no scratches, dings,
special marks whatsoever. It has 63,700 miles and the VIN # is :
4A3AA46H91E142693. It has a clear title ready to be signed and notarized
on your name.
I have the pictures hosted on the net and you can see them at
:myNetImages - Free Gallery and Image Hosting.
The car is located in Fair Lawn, NJ.
The price is $2,470 including shipping costs anywhere in the continental
US. There are no other costs regarding this transaction. I am selling
the car because I am in the army, and my unit will be deployed to
Afghanistan in December.
The transaction will be closed only through a 3rd party and this way we
will both be protected. My time is limited due to my job in the army so
I decided to use a service from TrialPay. To begin the transaction I'll
need your full name and shipping address, I will forward the details of
our transaction to TrialPay and then you will receive an invoice from
them. The car will be shipped insured to your location with DAS and you
will have 5 days for inspection.
Thank you,
Gregg Stockton.

I dunno? Are there any benefits to selling the car in the same state that it is currently registered in (assuming it was registered in your state)? Also, I assume that when she signs the papers she will have her signature notorized as well? Your notary couldn't notorize her signature if it was on there before hand (and if only in her late husband's name, you would need the papers that show that she is authorized to sign it).
Also, from my understanding TrialPay is not a 3rd party go-between for transactions like this. I thought it was a place where you could offer a service or digital media, but customers pay for them by doing free trials on products, etc, instead of giving money... This makes me think it is very fishy, but TrialPay doesn't ask YOU for money, so it would be a very stupid scam.... lol

A.) Did you email those people inquiring upon those vehicles? If yes, go to step B.). If no, go to Step C.)
B.) If you emailed them then expect a reply, nothing fishy about that.
C.) If you didn't email thosepeople, then of course it is. Why would I trust anyone who emailed me about a car that I was interested in buying when I had never even seen that car before.

Yes it is, however it is usually the buyer that covers the cost of shipping as most sellers expect the buyers to go and personally pick up the car.
The cost of shipping a car through about 5 states with major shipping terminals is around $700.
From Montana to PA would probably be around $1000. |

Craigslist sez... Quote: ** CRAIGSLIST ADVISORY --- AVOID SCAMS BY DEALING LOCALLY
** Avoid: wiring money, cross-border deals, work-at-home
** Beware: cashier checks, money orders, escrow, shipping
** More Info: craigslist | about > scams | Person to person sales over the internet with cross-shipping is a bad idea. My rule of thumb is that if I really really have to; only do so with an amount I am comfortable losing.
I purchased 2 things that way. One was from a well known member at Sysopt back in the day (when they had a traders forum). I mailed a check and he mailed a PS2 and games. The other instance was for some technical publications. Found them on CL in Chicago. Not the sort of stuff scammers usually use for honey. I sent the guy $$$ via paypal and he shipped. It was on the order of $150 or so. It worked out.
Scammer or not, I'd never buy something like a car, sight unseen, over the internet.
Stick in your area!!! Good luck. |
