| Challenge #3.
Your mother is using a very old and slow computer from eons ago. She has asked you to upgrade her machine so that its faster. She wants the desktop to look the same so you will be putting windows XP back on the system but the CD-Key was lost from the old computer so you have to get another copy from Newegg. She has allotted you $750 to accomplish this task. You will be doing a full system build for her. She doesn't play any games except what comes with windows. She uses office applications as well as email. She is hard of seeing and needs a bigger monitor to relieve the strain on her eyes. What do you build? |

A. it's just that.... A for fun thread...
B. its going to be dated in 4-6 weeks... What's the point?
Prices will be different and you'd pick different parts...
C. There is no long term relavent info to be gained from this...
Sticky's are there for future recall and easy access to pertinent info. |

Sticky's are there for future recall and easy access to pertinent info. | Not to mention in most cases you are trading off things like a good quality mouse/keyboard, larger drive, better case, newer boards ect for something that is cheaper and faster. So even though some of the builds might sound great on paper for a real world build you'd probably change a few things.
edit: btw my entry for challenge 3 Newegg.com - Acer Aspire AX1200-BE5600A 22" wide-screen TFT LCD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ 3GB DDR2 320GB NVIDIA GeForce 8200 Windows Vista Home Premium (English / French) - Desktop PCs

that is stunning there pullmyfoot. thats pretty close to what a entry level gaming rig looks like too, just throw in a discrete graphics and would be set. |

Aww come on that its overkill for my dear ol' mom. I'd save her some cash and go a little cheaper than the $750 limit that way she could have the extra spending money for bingo...lol
and no I wouldn't actually go with the ACER, I just didn't have time to make up a build right now. |
