DoubleClick Pop-up Ads?!?
Hey folks,
Am I the only one getting pop-up ads and cookies from DoubleClick when I'm surfing on Techimo?
I'm getting tired of running AdAware!

You should only be getting a couple popups a day, max.
Please recommend TechIMO.com to your friends and family!

Sharder - I was just about to post something similar. I'm SICK of this.
That fact of the matter is, some of us are getting more than a "couple of popups" a day. And it's not our problem. You should only be getting a couple popups a day, max.

Well IMO its a BIG problem if this site goes under due to lack of funding!!And it's not our problem
ALLLLLLLLLL Sites need income!!
We've been through this, over this, under this etc for as long as TechIMO has existed!
Do you like the site?
Would you like to continue visiting the site?
If so its just something that has to be dealt with...

We'll probably yank the popups ads soon anyway as they're paying very poorly. The crucial ad is paying the hosting fees (though not my bills).

Shoot what other kind of alternatives are there for generating income besides an online store? Online store will create more expeneses and the profit margins probably aren't that great.
Lets brain storm for some ideas.

May 28th, 2002, 10:42 PM #7True but maybe without those type of ads. They do pay rather poorly and thats why I actually never used pop-ups/pop-unders as I detest them too, so I'm glad to hear they may be leaving here shortly as wellALLLLLLLLLL Sites need income!! ......blah blah blah.....

Thankfully PhotoPost and ResellerRatings are doing well - I won't kill techimo regardless, but I don't think it will be a money maker any time soon.. I appreciate the offer groundzero - keep your hard earned bucks...

I'm not sure what's going on, but I haven't gotten any popups at all since that time there was that big rash where every click netted another popup?

Why hasn't the idea of a paid membership ever been really floated? Now obviuosly everyone would still be able to access the site, but maybe those who pay could get s special symbol next to there name or a special title ... "Lifetime Techimo Supporter" somthing silly ...
I just mean I think most poeple would chip in 15- 20 bucks and if that is too much a year make it for three years ... I honestly don't click that many banners and I do feel bad about that.

I don't care much about the sporadic pop-ups.....I close them right away.
IMO, it's not a good idea at all to have a paid membership at this stage in the game. Uber sites are able to have that (gaming sites like IGN and Gamespot) because they offer content many others don't have.....you can be the first to have a review of a game, or wait several days or more for them to have it available for the non-paying crew.......@ this place, since it is so small and new, it would do more harm than good......and if a l33t club is created with the membership, I'm out (like if the Community forum is only accessable through membership.....).

I've left Techimo open to pop-ups, and I click on them sometimes to help pay the bills. I do prevent pop-ups at all other sites for the typical reasons.
I guess I'm just particular about WHOSE ads are popping up! If they come from spyware, or are spyware, I DON'T WANT THEM POPPING UP on my machine! DoubleClick is known as spyware and is treated as such by several cleaners. We even discuss and cuss about spyware and doubleclick in the forums, so Techimo having an affiliation with known spyware bothers me!
I realize there is a reason for pop-ups here and I understand the reason. I want to see Scott and company suceed and be able to raise a family or enjoy life as much as he/they want to. If it came to paying membership, even on a voluntary basis, I'd jump on it to help ease the burden (even if it meant only getting away from the affiliation with spyware)!
Just my thoughts!

Sometimes it isn't the pop up ads, it's the flashing banner on the main screen that can really drive a person nuts!

Wart, if i remember right the paying membership would primarily for extra services, not to limit the currently available services.
ie. No banners, larger mailbox etc ... nothing taken away though.
That I think would be a good idea, maybe more photopost / attachments space as well..
So it'd be extra stuff, not limiting what the non-subscriber could do.
I agree, limiting the site to paying only members would hurt more than help as I'm sure Scott knows, and I believe he's said almost all of this.Helicopters don't fly; they vibrate so much and make so much noise that the earth rejects them.
