Looking for a new digital camera

I am looking for a replacement camera for general home use. I have been considering the Olympus Stylus 1010, Olympus Stylus 1010 10.1 Megapixel 7x Zoom Silver Digital Camera.

I am looking for small camera with at least 5 M, takes movies, easy to use( point and shoot), around $200.00 or less and takes decent quality pictures. Any suggestions?

    I bought a:
The sleek design of the PowerShot A1000 IS is as refreshing as a breath of fresh air. Better still, its high-end features make everything simple: there's the 10.0-megapixel resolution and powerful 4x Optical Zoom lens with Optical Image Stabilizer for sharpness along the full zoom range. A DIGIC III Image Processor with Canon Face Detection automatically lets every face stand out. Easy Mode and Easy Playback make this camera a marvel of simplicity. With a bright 2.5-inch LCD, it's available in four two-toned colors.

For $129.99 a couple months ago and really like it....But the 7x on the one you picked out would be handy.

What about storage type( not familiar with storage in cameras) and batteries for this camera? I have many AA rechargeable batteries left over from my dead D550 camera.

The only issue I have with Olympus is they usually use their proprietary storage cards
I prefer cameras that use the standard SD cards.
Many laptops these days come with a SD card slot, so wont require dragging along a reader.

I have a few year old Elph and love it, has always been reliable.. even after dropping it in a river once
It does have a proprietary battery, but its still chugging along with no problems.

The memory has not been a concern, I use a usb to download pictures to the computer.
    Storage Media:
    xD-Picture Card™ (1GB, 2GB), microSD (MASD-1 is required)

What is a concern is the battery type, I would like to continue to use my rechargeable AA batteries.

Check out the Kodak Z1485 at Amazon.com... $161.45... 14MP camera that takes great pictures, but also gives you video at up to 720P .

The video downloads as a QT file, but with proper software you can convert to any video format and burn to DVD without loss of quality... the movies I shot over Easter came out very well... just make sure you get rechargeable Li batteries because it only comes with alkalines.

I wasn't expecting much from the video because I was mainly interested in shooting stills, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well the video capture comes out.

This camera won't easily fit in your shirt pocket, but it is easy to use and gives quality pictures and video.

Olympus cameras all use li-on batteries, AFAIK, and they use the XD memory which can be a little more expensive. Almost all laptops/computers/printers have a card slot for it though, so importing is as easy as SD.

I'd take a look at the Canon A1100. 12mp, 4x, and uses AA batteries.
    Good job, friend-of-friends!

You can't really go wrong with any Canon Elph and 8g SD card as a pocket-shooter.
Sure the Olympus has the Carl Zeiss lenses but a bit of overkill for a pocket digital where digital zoom is worthless anyways. Had both and the Elph in whatever megapixel will serve you well.

I purchased the Olympus Stylus 1010 and a 2GB card for $182.00 after taxes. Took some pictures and a small movie last night. I wanted to download them but the cable is not the normal usb cable, the cable is multifunction USB,DC In and A/V out. I am at work and left that cable at home. Have to download the pictures when I get home after work. The camera was easy to use for either pictures or a movie. The lithium ion battery came precharged so I was able to take pictures at the softball game last night.

yeah, my Olympus has that same sort of cable. And I've had mine for over two years I think and the battery is still working great.
