I am leaving tomorrow morning and won't be back for a long while.

I'm going to a basically unihabited island for about a month and a half to do scientific research. There will only be myself, 9 other students, and a professor or two. No internet, only a single phone that operates by radio relay to the mainland (and doesn't work in crappy weather of course).

I've been told it's "best not to get hurt" because it will take an hour and a half for a helicopter to even arrive there for an airlift.

So this is it. Balls to the walls. The practical culmination of what I have been studying the last three years. The real culmination isn't until next year with my comprehensive exit exams, but this is more the real test in my field (forestry). Real field work of my own design to be carried out under primitive conditions and presented by myself and under the scrutiny of my peers.
