Craftsman 25 HP lawn tractor

I have a craftsman Lawn tractor Model No. 917.273240 25 HP electric start w/automatic transmission that I cannot get gas from the gas tank to the carburetor. Have replaced fuel filter and then fuel pump and discovered that I cannot get gas from the gas tank. Is there a check valve in the gas tank or could there be an obstruction in the tank? Need to know how to get the gas tank off.

You shouldn't have to take the gas tank off. Take the fuel line coming from the gas tank to the fuel filter off and see if you can get gas through it. If you have gas in the tank and it comes out of the tank then the tank is fine (I would suggest catching the gas spilled in something).

I dont know this machine but do as cksboy15 says "Take the fuel line coming from the gas tank to the fuel filter off and see if you can get gas through it."
You may have a screen in the tank that has become clogged with dirt or varnish.
You could trying blowing that line in towards the tank to temporarily unblock it if its the problem.

Sounds like a simple case of a clogged fuel filter... cks hit it on the nose.

Did gas come out when you replaced the filter? If not the line is clogged to the tank. Also try removing the gas cap with the line off to the filter to check the venting. If you get gas to there and you have replaced the filter then you likely have a stuck float. Try tapping the float bowl to see if you can jar it loose.

Edit - reread and see that you are not getting gas from the tank. Would try without the cap but most likely trash in the tank.

The poster seems to have moved on but I was thinking about this and realized I missed an obvious answer. So here it is just in case - many mowers have a fuel cutoff installed between the tank and the carb. If the float gets stuck open (been there - fixed that) then fuel gravity feeds into the crankcase and out the top of the carb. Most mowers don't have one from the factory but many people add them. Should be obvious if you trace the fuel line from the carb back to the tank.
