Point: McD's fabricates beef at their own plant, that’s a lot of fat that goes to waste. The "essence of beef" most likely is a percentage of rendered beef fat added to Fry oil therefore making a cheaper product than 100% Soy or vegetable based shortening. Just guessing, but it used to be common practice in the old days.
Point: How many people complained about their coffee not being hot enough before they started brewing it at those high temps????
Point: When it comes to multi-million dollar lawsuits you can find a Doctor to say just about anything..."third degree burns"
Full-Thickness Burn (Third Degree)
"A third degree burn destroys all layers of skin and any or all of the underlying structures (fat, muscles, bones and nerves). The burn appears brown or black (charred) with the tissues underneath sometimes appearing white. This type of burn can be extremely painful or relatively painless if the burn destroys the nerve endings. This burn is critical and requires immediate medical attention." http://library.thinkquest.org/10624/burns.html
Most of these types of Lawsuits are ridiculous,
call 1-800-LAWYERS, give me a break!!!!

Hey guys: "check the factual bases of the legends "
Incident #1 http://home.pon.net/wildrose/column4.htm
Long legal description about tort reform is also there
Taken from this site: http://andrewprince.com/SOMECOLDarticle3.html this statement, "
Fact: A 79-year-old grandmother, Stella Liebeck, was a passenger in her grandson’s car when she purchased a cup of coffee at McDonald’s in New Mexico. After the car pulled over to a curb, Mrs. Liebeck held the cup of coffee between her knees and attempted to remove the plastic lid to put cream in her coffee. The coffee spilled on Mrs. Liebeck, causing significant third-degree burns, requiring an eight-day hospital stay, along with skin grafts and permanent scarring.
"
From this site: http://www.fonhink.com/lawtalk/lt-coffeecase.html
"McDonald's coffee was measured at 180 degrees Fahrenheit"
"awarded as punitive damages to "punish" McDonald's for violating industry standards and ignoring the 700 prior injuries . "
Incident #2 http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv...191423_000.htm

It seems that the oil that is used to cook them contains essence of beef to add flavor. They had their packages labled as Vegetatian, this was the reason for the lawsuit.
It just goes to show that people are sue happy. Such a sad state.

Thanks for the really interesting links. I am sorry to say that I'm one of the people who bought into part of the misinformation about that poor woman. I'm really glad to know the facts of the case. |
