Whats the difference.....

between electrical and computational engineering?

I have always thought that they were basically the same thing, although, now im starting to notice some universities are differentiating between the two.

actually a pretty good amount. I'm a double majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Texas Tech, and i though about going into Computer Engineering (as it's called here). the best way to give you an idea is to describe the curriculum differences. In EE (Electrical Engineering) here you take 5 labs, whereas CompE's (Computer Engineers) only take 4. EE's take 2 Fields courses (basically radio waves and stuff like that) and CompE's don't. EE's also take Materials which (i don't think) CompE's don't. EE's only take 2 compsci (pronounced "komp-skee" ), VB and intro to C++, whereas CompE's take those, plus another year of C++ plus, OS Fund. (Unix), Computer Layout (i forget the name, basically a hardware look at comps), plsu some structures and other higher programming technique like classes. So in a nutshell, CompE's don't get as broad of a foundation in EE, but more of a foundation in CS. (And then there's me that is going full out in both )

Alright, thanks originel.

So really, if you are double majoring, and computer science is one of your majors, it is much more worth while to take EE than CE. Right?

i would say so. but be forewarned, it's a LOT of work double-majoring. My school has a special program set up between the two departments that basically gets rid of similar classes and masks the course managable, in fact it's counted as a single major at Tech for clerical purposes (even though it is offically a double major). now obvously not every university has this and then it might actually close to double the number of hours you have to take, depending on what you can work out (who wants to spend 7 years working on your BS). as it is, i'm gonna spend five years. so be forewarned

I dont doubt it (about the hard work). I slacked off and did nothing for my 12 years of schooling and I seriously payed for it this year.

Thanks for the info.
