    I love lyrics

Do you folks love music? Several folks in my family are of professional grade musician quality...but I was always to busy on my computer to even give it a chance. But anyway, how about some favorite lyrics.

You can tell a LOT about a person, knowing the lyrics they love. I'm generally into the political (or anti, either way is the same), but I don't stop there...

"Suggestions", by System of a Down

    Watching,
    From a post up high,
From where you see the ships afar,
    From a well trained eye,
The waves all keep on crashing by,
If you are the light post,
Then you own the working class,
But if you want the answers,
You better give a piece of ass,
Give a piece of your ass,
    Warning,
    Post hypnotic suggestions,
    Running the ships ashore,
    The orange light that follows,
Will soon proclaim itself a god,
    If you point your questions,
The fog will surely chew you up,
But if you want the answers,
You better get ready for the fire,
    Get ready for the fire,
The ships are multiplying day after day sir,
And they're coming close to the shore sir, shore sir,
We need to evacuate the light post,
It's all over, it's all over It's all over

[Do I need to censor that little "cuss" word?]

And here's one I love...not very deep, but VERY applicable:

    Megadeth
    Rust In Peace (1990)
    Dawn Patrol

    Thermal count is rising
    In perpetual writhing
    The primordial ooze
    And the sanity they lose

    Awakened in the morning
    To more air pollution warnings
Still we sleepwalk off to work
    While our nervous systems jerk

    Pretending not to notice
    How history had forebode us
With the green house in effect
    Our environment was wrecked

    Now I can only laugh
    As I read our epitaph
We end our lives as moles
In the dark of dawn patrol

    Lydia the Tattooed Lady
    Lyrics by E.Y. Harburg.

Oh Lydia, oh Lydia, say, have you met Lydia?
    Lydia The Tattooed Lady.
She has eyes that folks adore so,
and a torso even more so.
    Lydia, oh Lydia, that encyclo-pidia.
Oh Lydia The Queen of Tattoo.
On her back is The Battle of Waterloo.
Beside it, The Wreck of the Hesperus too.
And proudly above waves the red, white, and blue.
You can learn a lot from Lydia!

    La-la-la...la-la-la.
    La-la-la...la-la-la.

When her robe is unfurled she will show you the world,
if you step up and tell her where.
For a dime you can see Kankakee or Paree,
    or Washington crossing The Delaware.

    La-la-la...la-la-la.
    La-la-la...la-la-la.

Oh Lydia, oh Lydia, say, have you met Lydia?
    Lydia The Tattooed Lady.
    When her muscles start relaxin',
up the hill comes Andrew Jackson.
    Lydia, oh Lydia, that encyclo-pidia.
Oh Lydia The Queen of them all.
For two bits she will do a mazurka in jazz,
with a view of Niagara that nobody has.
And on a clear day you can see Alcatraz.
You can learn a lot from Lydia!

    La-la-la...la-la-la.
    La-la-la...la-la-la.

Come along and see Buffalo Bill with his lasso.
Just a little classic by Mendel Picasso.
Here is Captain Spaulding exploring the Amazon.
Here's Godiva, but with her pajamas on.

    La-la-la...la-la-la.
    La-la-la...la-la-la.

Here is Grover Whelan unveilin' The Trilon.
Over on the west coast we have Treasure Isle-on.
    Here's Nijinsky a-doin' the rhumba.
    Here's her social security numba.

    La-la-la...la-la-la.
    La-la-la...la-la-la.

    Lydia, oh Lydia, that encyclo-pidia.
Oh Lydia The Champ of them all.
She once swept an Admiral clear off his feet.
The ships on her hips made his heart skip a beat.
And now the old boy's in command of the fleet,
for he went and married Lydia!

    I said Lydia...
    (He said Lydia...)
    They said Lydia...
    We said Lydia, la, la!

    LOL...Theo's another Groucho Marx fan!

Edit: Oh, okay, DangerSeeker....the lyrics that truly inspired and affected me were almost always stuff by Slim Gaillard, like "Cement Mixer, Put-ti, Put-ti" and of course, the almost maddeningly Zen-like...

De flat foot floogie wit da floy-floy,
De flat foot floogie wit da floy-floy,
De flat foot floogie wit da floy-floy,
    Floy DOY!
    Floy DOY!
    Floy DOY!

I understand that there have also been some other songs written since then, if I think of any of that caliber, I'll be sure to put 'em up.

I really like ZZ Top, and this is one of my favorite songs

    Cheap Sunglasses

When you get up in the morning and the light is hurt your head
The first thing you do when you get up out of bed
Is hit that streets a-runnin' and try to beat the masses
And go get yourself some cheap sunglasses
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah

Spied a little thing and I followed her all night
In a funky fine levis and her sweater's kind of tight
She had a west coast strut that was as sweet as molases
But what really knocked me out was her cheap sunglasses
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah

    (solo)

Now go out and get yourself some big black frames
With the glass so dark thay won't even know your name
And the choice is up to you cause they come in two classes:
    Rhinestone shades or cheap sunglasses
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
    ##########################################

    or this one

    Give it Up

I bet the derby and I won by a nose,
I bet Vegas and they took my clothes.
Bettin' Monte Carlo I was showin' my stuff,
I bet on you baby, now ain't that enough?

You got to give it up,
    Give it up baby.
    Give it up.
You got to give it up, baby, tell me where it's at.

Well there's a few more things you need to know about me,
    I trained "Trigger" single-handedly.
    I invented see-through negligees,
And I bought the flying saucer off the Presley estate.

You got to give it up,
You got to give it up baby.
    Give it up.
You got to give it up, baby, tell me where it's at.

I fell in love down in Mexico,
Thunderbird wine's the only way to go.
I been in love ten thousand times,
All you got to do is remember my line.

    Give it up.
    Give it up, baby,
    Give it up.
You got to give it up, baby, tell me where it's at.

    Come on, give it up.
    Give it up, baby.
    Give it up.
You got to give it up, baby, tell me where it's at.

I like Electric blues, and some techno 80 crap, not most, just a few select songs. but anything from zztop
    kenny wayne sheapard
    stevie ray vaughn
    e g kight
    will be cool

This will be a long thread

I love classic rock...but ya know, since I quit drinking, I don't find myself listening to it very often. Odd. There's at least one song in every genre of music that I like. And my least favorite type has gotta be country. But on with the monster thread! At least I'll be able to read the whole thing...as most long threads have a lot of uninteresting rambles.

    identification through other's artistic expression

and another lyric to keep this post on topic (at first, a deep and twisted insight, then an incoherent psychotic rambling...or is it vise versa?):

    "Disgustipated" by Tool

And the angel of the lord came unto me, snatching me up from my place of slumber.
And took me on high, and higher still until we moved to the spaces betwixt the air itself.
And he brought me into a vast farmlands of our own midwest.
And as we descended, cries of impending doom rose from the soil.
One thousand, nay a million voices full of fear.
    And terror possesed me then.
And I begged, "Angel of the Lord, what are these tortured screams?"
And the angel said unto me, "These are the cries of the carrots, the cries of the carrots!
You see, Reverend Maynard, tomorrow is harvest day and to them it is the holocaust."
And I sprang from my slumber drenched in sweat like the tears of one million terrified brothers and roared,
"Hear me now, I have seen the light! They have a consciousness, they have a life, they have a soul!
Damn you! Let the rabbits wear glasses! Save our brothers!"
Can I get an amen? Can I get a hallelujah? Thank you Jesus.

Life feeds on life feeds on life feeds on life feeds on........

    This is necessary.

It was daylight when you woke up in your ditch.
You looked up at your sky then.
That made blue be your color.
You had your knife there with you too.
When you stood up there was goo all over your clothes.
    Your hands were sticky.
You wiped them on your grass, so now your color was green.
Oh Lord, why did everything always have to keep changing like this.
You were already getting nervous again.
Your head hurt and it rang when you stood up.
    Your head was almost empty.
It always hurt you when you woke up like this.
You crawled up out of your ditch onto your gravel road and began to walk,
waiting for the rest of your mind to come back to you.
You can see the car parked far down the road and you walked toward it.
"If God is our Father," you thought, "then Satan must be our cousin."
Why didn't anyone else understand these important things?
You got to your car and tried all the doors.
    They were locked.
It was a red car and it was new.
There was an expensive leather camera case laying on the seat.
Out across your field, you could see two tiny people walking by your woods.
You began to walk towards them.
Now red was your color and, of course, those little people out there were yours too.

    [EDIT]

HEY KNOTHEAD! LYRICS, man! Edit yer POST with some!

LOL Danger, that is a twisted ... errr song?
    The "hidden" track
    Let the rabbits wear glasses!!!
I'd post more TOOL but I think others may not like their viewpoint

    -----------------------------
    Pantera - Hollow

    What's left inside him?
    Don't he remember us?
    Can't he believe me?
    We seemed like bothers
    Talked for hours last month
    About what we wanna be
I sit now with his hand in mine
But I know he can't feel...

    No one knows
    What's done is done
It's as if he were dead

    I'm close with his mother
    And she cries endlessly
    Lord how we miss him
    At least what's remembered
It's so important to make best friends in life
But it's hard when my friend sits with blank expressions

    No one knows
    What's done is done
It's as if he were dead

He as hollow as I alone now
He as hollow as I alone
    A shell of my friend
    Just flesh and bone
    There's no soul
    He sees no love
I shake my fists at skies above
    Mad at God

He as hollow as I converse
I wish he'd waken from this curse
Hear my words before it's through
I want to come in after you
    My best friend

He as hollow as I alone
Helicopters don't fly; they vibrate so much and make so much noise that the earth rejects them.

Also another good song, haven't heard it in awhile actually :/

    Metallica - Welcome Home (Sanitarium)

Welcome to where time stands still
no one leaves and no one will
Moon is full, never seems to change
    just labeled mentally deranged
Dream the same thing every night
I see our freedom in my sight
No locked doors, No windows barred
No things to make my brain seem scarred

Sleep my friend and you will see
    that dream is my reality
They keep me locked up in this cage
can't they see it's why my brain says Rage

    Sanitarium, leave me be
    Sanitarium, just leave me alone

Build my fear of what's out there
and cannot breathe the open air
    Whisper things into my brain
    assuring me that I'm insane
They think our heads are in their hands
but violent use brings violent plans
Keep him tied, it makes him well
he's getting better, can't you tell?

No more can they keep us in
Listen, damn it, we will win
They see it right, they see it well
but they think this saves us from our hell

    Sanitarium, leave me be
    Sanitarium, just leave me alone
    Sanitarium, just leave me alone

    Fear of living on
    natives getting restless now
    Mutiny in the air
    got some death to do
    Mirror stares back hard
Kill, it's such a friendly word
    seems the only way
    for reaching out again.
Helicopters don't fly; they vibrate so much and make so much noise that the earth rejects them.

    Thumbs up Tom Petty

    Room At The Top
    By Tom Petty

I got a room at the top of the world tonight
    I can see everything tonight
I got a room where everyone
Can have a drink and forget those things
That went wrong in their life

I got a room at the top of the world tonight
I got a room at the top of the world tonight
I got a room at the top of the world tonight
    And I ain't comin' down, I ain't comin' down

I got someone who loves me tonight
I got over a thousand dollars in the bank
    And I'm all right
Look deep in the eyes of love
Look deep in the eyes of love
And find out what you were looking for

I got a room at the top of the world tonight
I got a room at the top of the world tonight
I got a room at the top of the world tonight
And I ain't comin' down, no I ain't comin' down

I wish I could feel you tonight, little one
    You're so far away
I wanna reach out and touch your heart
Yeah like they do in those things on TV, I love you
Please love me, I'm not so bad
    And I love you so

I got a room at the top of the world tonight
I got a room at the top of the world tonight
I got a room at the top of the world tonight
And I ain't comin' down, no I ain't comin' down
    I ain't comin' down

I think I can listen to just about anything...with the exception of bluegrass, country and gospel....

But the music has to be good though...

Lyrics really don't matter to me...
No one dies a virgin, Life screws us all.

Vass has what I would agree to being superb taste in the audible arts. But that's just me.

Any lyrics don't matter! Only if yer dancin, and those flumptious breasts are bouncing in your face! [hope that doesn't offend the ladies 'round here...I love you all!]

PS...I wanna kewl animated picture under my name! What program can I use to make one, and how do I get it up [the picture...the PICTURE!] PM me on that one...it's off topic.

    "Holy Wars" by Megadeth

    Brother will kill brother
    Spilling blood across the land
    Killing for religion
    Something I don't understand

Fools like me,who cross the sea
    And come to foreign lands
    Ask the sheep,for their beliefs
Do you kill on God's command?

    A country that's divided
    Surely will not stand
    My past erased,no more disgrace
    No foolish naive stand

The end is near,it's crystal clear
    Part of the master plan
    Don't look now to Israel
    It might be your homelands

    Holy wars

    Upon my podium,as the
    Know it all scholar
Down in my seat of judgement
    Gavel's bang,uphold the law
    Up on my soapbox,a leader
    Out to change the world
Down in my pulpit as the holler
    Than-thou-could-be-messenger of God

Wage the war on organized crime
    Sneak attacks,repel down the rocks
    Behind the lines
Some people risk to employ me
Some people live to destroy me
    Either way they die

They killed my wife, and my baby
    With hopes to enslave me
    First mistake...last mistake|
Paid by the alliance,to slay all the giants
    Next mistake...no more mistakes|

Fill the cracks in,with judicial granite
    Because I don't say it,don't mean I ain't
    Thinkin' it
Next thing you know, they'll take my thoughts away
I know what I said, now I must scream of the overdose
And the lack of mercy killings

    [EDiT]
KNOTHEAD! You have ruptured my SPLEAN! I must go stitch my sides up...

Too bad Megadeth is no more, I think Dave Mustane had one of the best voices for this genre : http://www.megadeth.com/news/pr/disband.html

I love the sounds of some bands, but after hearing some lyrics I stopped listening to them. Tool is one of them. One band I really like now is System of a Down. They are twisted in their political wranglings, but their tunes are great. I love their sound. I can't begin to comprehend some of their lyrics though like this one: CUBErt http://www.getlyrics.com/lyrics.php?...wn&Song=CUBErt

This is a song that has touched my heart ever since I was a little girl...........

    Amazing Grace

"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

    T'was Grace that taught...
    my heart to fear.
    And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear...
    the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares...
    we have already come.
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far...
and Grace will lead us home.

The Lord has promised good to me...
    His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be...
    as long as life endures.

When we've been here a thousand years...
    bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise...
    then when we've first begun.

"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

TOOL is one of the other groups I thought about posting, but those maybe a bit offensive to some...
I try to be curteous occasionally!

I Like "The Ghost of Tom Joad", written by Bruce Springsteen. I prefer Rage Against the Machine's rendition of it, though:

Men walkin' long the railroad tracks
Goin' someplace there's no going back
Highway patrol choppers comin' up over the ridge

Hot soup on a campfire under the bridge
Shelter line stretchin' round the corner
Welcome to the new world order
Families sleepin' in their cars in the Southwest
No home no job no peace no rest

    The highway is alive tonight
But nobody's kiddin' nobody about where it goes
I'm sittin' down here in the campfire light
Searchin' for the ghost of Tom Joad

He pulls a prayer book out of his sleeping bag
Preacher lights up a butt and takes a drag
Waitin for when the last shall be first and the first
    shall be last
In a cardboard box 'neath the underpass
Got a one-way ticket to the promised land
You got a hole in your belly and a gun in your hand
Sleeping on a pillow of solid rock
    Bathin' in the city aqueduct

    The highway is alive tonight
    Where it's headed everybody knows
I'm sittin' down here in the campfire light
Waitin' on the ghost of Tom Joad

Now Tom said "Mom wherever there's a cop
    beatin' a guy
    Wherever a newborn baby cries
Where there's a fight 'gainst the blood and hatred
    in the air
Look for me Mom I'll be there
    Wherever there's somebody fightin'for a
    place to stand
Or decent job or a helpin' hand
Wherever somebody's strugglin' to be free
Look in their eyes Mom you'll see me."

Well the highway is alive tonight
But nobody's kiddin' nobody about where it goes
I'm sittin down here in the campgire light
With the ghost of old Tom Joad

1 good week a month vass

and 26? I have 11 years on ya, I remember when sweet home alabama was top 40
That was when music was good.IMO,but the teens will say that to thier kids too. I always said, I'll never tell my kids to turn that music down
But I hate endstink (nsync) as bad as my dad hated AC/DC lol....
Oh well, guess that's just one of those things.

Lyrics do matter to me, I am a songwriter of sorts, the sort you never wan't to hear prolly, so I listen to the lyrics closely, plus you need to know them to play the song at parties, to look

    kenny wayne shepard
    blue on black

    Night
    falls
    I'm alone
    Skin
yeah, chilled me to the bone
    You, turned and you ran,
    oh yeah
Oh, slipped right from my hand

    Hey
    Blue on black,
    tears on a river
    Push on a shove,
    it don't mean much
    Joker on Jack
    Match on a fire
    Cold on ice
    its a dead man's touch.
    Whisper on a scream,
    doesn't change a thing
    Don't bring you back
    Blue on black
    Oh Yeah
    Blue on Black

    Blind, oh,
    now I see
    truth, lies,
    and in between.
    Wrong,
    can't be undone
    Oh Slipped,
from the tip of your tongue

    Hey
    Blue on black,
    tears on a river
    Push on a shove,
    it don't mean much
    Joker on Jack
    Match on a fire
    Cold on ice
    its a dead man's touch.
    Whisper on a scream,
    doesn't change a thing
    Doesn't bring you back
    yeah
    Blue on black
    oh, blue on black.

    Blue on black,
    tears on a river
    Push on a shove,
    it don't mean much
    Joker on Jack
    Match on a fire
    Cold on ice
    its a dead man's touch.
    Whisper on a scream,
    doesn't change a thing
    Don't bring you back
    Blue on black
    oh yeah
    Blue on Black

    yeah
    Blue on black,
    tears on a river
    Push on a shove,
    it don't mean much
    Joker on Jack
    Match on a fire
    Cold on ice
    its a dead man's touch.
    Whisper on a scream,
    doesn't change a thing
    Doesn't bring you back
    Blue on black
    oh
    blue on black
    oh
    blue on black
    oh
    blue on black

Ahhh wanna go in that direction eh

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Pride and Joy Great song!!

Well you've heard about love givin' sight to the blind.
My baby's lovin' cause the sun to shine.
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy.
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy.

Yeah I love my baby, my heart and soul.
Love like ours won't never grow old.
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy.
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy.

Yeah I love my lady, she's long and lean.
You mess with her, you'll see a man gettin' mean.
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy.
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy.

Well I love my baby like the finest wine.
Stick with her until the end of time.
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy.
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy.

Yeah I love my baby, my heart and soul.
Love like ours won't never grow old.
She's my sweet little thing, she's my pride and joy.
She's my sweet little baby, I'm her little lover boy

Jimi Hendrix - Castles Made of Sand
Down the street you can hear her scream "you're a disgrace"
As she slams the door in his drunken face,
And now he stands outside and all the neighbours start to gossip and drool.

He cries "Oh girl, you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?"
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green.

And so castles made of sand, fall in the sea, eventually.

A little Indian brave who before he was ten, played war games in
the woods with his Indian friends, and he built a dream that when he
grew up, he would be a fearless warrior Indian Chief.

Many moons passed and more the dream grew strong, until tomorrow
He would sing his first war song,
And fight his first battle, but something went wrong,
Suprise attack killed him in his sleep that night

And so castles made of sand, melts into the sea eventually.

There was a young girl, whose heart was a frown,
Because she was crippled for life, and couldn't speak a sound
And she wished and prayed she would stop living, so she decided to die.
She drew her wheel chair to the edge of the shore, and to her legs she smiled

"You won't hurt me no more."
But then a sight she'd never seen made her JUMP AND SAY
"Look, a golden winged ship is passing my way"
And it really didn't have to stop...it just kept on going.
And so castles made of sand slips into the sea,
    Eventually
Helicopters don't fly; they vibrate so much and make so much noise that the earth rejects them.
