English Revised Recently I have had to hand in a number of reports for my degree and most if not all had many grammatical errors. Now being science based I never put much effort into my grammar especially when I write it, but having my English corrected by someone from another country is a bad state of affairs. Not that I have anything against them being better at English than me, it is rather the fact that I have spent all my life and a long number of years studying and speaking this language and I still cant seem to do it write. ;) So I have come upon a solution to my problem. Rather than trying to improve my traditional English I am going to revise the English language to make it more efficient. My reasons for this being that if I developed my own language it would look good on a CV (worked for Tolkien) and that recently I have noticed such a language called US English, so if someone else has done it so can I. Firstly I will remove the words that sound the same but are spelt and mean different things. For example there and their; where were and wear. It may seem that we need them but we dont and I'll show you why. The different meaning of each word can be expressed by the context in which it is put. Eg. What clothes will I wear? You could put any of the above three to replace wear and your meaning would be understood due to the context of the sentence. Secondly, Tense. You need only one tense, Present. That means that you can remove past and future tenses. For example, 'Yesterday, I went to the shops' or 'Tomorrrow, I am going to the shops'. Yesterday and Tomorrow have already indicated that it is past or future so you could replace both 'went' and 'am going' with go (the present tense). Now I appreciate that remove tenses may be difficult as in alot of cases it will require some restructuring of our sentences and the fact that it seems funny, but in the long run it will be worth it. So join me with some suggestions and get your name in the credits of being an author of a language. |
Depend on context? Ha! "Time flies like an arrow." "Fruit flies like a banana." You have to have special knowledge before you can even tell what's a noun and what's a verb. Besides, as a chemist, I resent the idea that I'm not expected to speak or write my own language correctly. |
On the other hand, you might try learning a language that won't let you make grammatical or spelling mistakes: Loglan. |
So you're gonna be the microsoft of english? You don't like the standard, so just re-write the standard eh? :D |
No, he's gonna has a different version Vass. While we all use English 2002, he'll be using English ME:D Well I will say it does stink to have a foreigner to teach you your languge:( |
LMAO vass, nice. |
Understanding of language and grammar seems to go hand-in-hand with reading. The more you read, especially while growing up, the more thoroughly you understand the fine details of the language, for instance: there their they\'re read reed read red its it\'s who/whom and why "a" is used before consonant, and "an" is used before a vowel, but "an NBA all-star" is grammatically correct. |
I think its a matter of interest. English is certainly a foreign language for me and it is difficult and confusing. But if you make an effort its comes out OK. It\'s the wrong spellings I can\'t stand. It shows the writer to be indifferent to his audience\'s comfort. Other than that, all languages have quirks and I predict even the one you devise will have some. Good luck, though. |
Try to use american not english. American uses almost all of the other languages and is DYNAMIC- its always changing. After all, would you rather speak LATIN?? |
