Another point:

Day shift arrives, someone from another area remembers where the spare is.

Did he also know that this was the improper place?? If so, why did he fail to move it? Or at least document it's location?

That's a "last-ditch" defense, though, since finger-pointing at a coworker is bad business...

Sounds like a system/management problem to me. If Mgmt. would train/teach the correct procedures, along with enforce following them consistantly, you would not have been in that situation.

Hopefully you won't be the scapegoat in this situation.

Btw, I am in Mgmt. so it isn't a biased comment.

I'm with Ed on this one. Unless you want to get canned, I'd be raising cain about all the procedural deviations that led to this.

You didn't mis-stock those parts. But someone did. Don't make yourself the scapegoat, Doc.

Xactly right! the best defense is a good offense in this case.

What's the odd's these things will be able to be sold again?
I'd guess that while yes the company is out that income right now.. who's to say that they won't be sold to somebody else fairly soon?

I'm with Ed on this one Doc.
Go in with guns blazing over the parts being scraped out cause someone thought they were excess, and put cross hairs on the person that put the one spare somewhere it shouldn't have been.

The Buck Stops Here is an honerable position. But the buck should stop with them!

I agree with all the above also.

Sometimes it's your only option though

Taking it in the shorts instead of finger-pointing is worse business...

errr edit..

That didn't really sound like I mean it.. Let's add if it wasn't really under your control.

Well, there were a couple of good signs tonight.

First, the little LED flashed from Red to Green when I waved my badge over it.

Second, the Crash-Proof Steel Gate swung open.

Third, the guards with M-16's waved me in.

Whew, I made it in.. A whole host of motion sensing cameras focused on my vehicle as I drove into the compound, a one mile journey
[we call it I-285, after the perimeter road in Atlanta]

More automatic locks buzzed as I waved the badge over them..

It seems as I DO still indeed work here ''
