Surreal, I thought you said you were going to post some pictures of your cluttered room
Hey, you're only playing at being cluttered! |

Three things reduced the clutter in my life GREATLY:..............
| lol
I bought 2 of those 4-drawer "organizers"....they became catch-alls and now those too, are cluttered.
I dont think anyone that does more than email on their machine, has a clean space all of the time.
Ill clean it all nice, and sometimes all it takes is 1 "project" to mess it all up again.
I usually pop in a dvd and cleanup once every month or so....most of the time, I end up sitting and watching the movie though.....

I'm going to try and see my floor again. Maybe I will take some before and after pics.
Good luck |

Sadly I don't have a spare room for my computers. So they have taken over my living room. Come to think of it I may have a small portion of may kitchen counter currently hold parts. Oh, and a few, not many mind, in my bedroom. Then there are the two spare parts machines in my basement......
I wish I had a room to dedicate to my computer clutter. I'm jealous. |

one word(?) has helped unclutter my "guy room" in the house
K-V-M
this way I removed a bunch of old monitors, keyboards, mice. I then braided the KVM cables together to make them less of a mess when pulling out machines.
I then placed the towers next to each other under the folding banquet table/computer desk.
What really makes it look nice is the fact that I was able to find an old TV entertainment center, turn it upside down, and sit it on top of the banquet table.
The entertainment center was designed to have a TV on one side and a stereo stack on the other with a cabinet underneath.
When placed on the desk upside down I instantly achieve two side-by-side compartments to hold monitors (two KVM switches mounted there too). Inder the monitor shelve I have a hub shelf on one side with a smaller shelf under that. On the other side I have a slot big enough to put in some wooden boxes to pretend like I have a drawer. Above the two side comparements is the VHS tape cabinet which now stores computer books. On top of the whole setup is another set of computer books.

=================...<- banquet table
(please ignore the periods, there are there as place holders to keep the HTML from forcing this into a garbled mess)
The bottom left corner on top of the banquet table is where I keep the KVM switches and hubs
This idea might not work for you, but it at least is an idea which will hopefully help you come up with your own idea.
Best of luck (from someone who still has thicknet cabling and transcievers in his tool drawer at home despite the fact my home and work networks are CAT5)

I know the feeling surreal.. god do I.. my plan only has one more part to it... since I had no computer room.. and all my computers were by my bed.. I had to sepperate my room out.. now I have a computer end of the room.. and a sleeping end (hardly used haha) next step was the get a large kvm.. did that.. now only run one keyuboard, mouse, and monitor for 3 machines( will be 8 machines within a year) next and final step.. get a big honking corner desk.. which I will have by Xmas.. then I will be less cluttered.. haha.. err well better then I am now..
So first.. seperate.. break everything apart.. cables.. everything.. papers.. disks.. second set up the work areah you will be using.. 3rd.. set up an area that the systems will go.. try to keep them together.. 4th if u can get a kvm if u don't have one already.. 5th start to hook things back up in a neat manner... 6th what ever that is left over in the pile you made from breaking things apart.. go though.. anything u don't need and know wont do u any good trash.. keep things like disks that are good.. case screws.. never knwo ehn u will need them.. and other computer cables.. do as Scott said.. put the cable to gether in theri own box.. get some type of plastic trists.. or cable bands to neatly hold the cords folded.. and by the tiem u r done it should look better..
having done this afew time I know the dreaded hopeless feeling that comes from keeping clutter free.. it just helps to clear eerything away instead of just picking a spot..
Try to figure out how to place the desk.. and any racks u have to best help things look neat even when they are not=)
best of luck to you.. this is how I keep my things strait.. or will for the final time haha hoep something helps in there

Tupperware/Rubbermaid works pretty good as well for smaller stuff and the stackable tubs are pretty nice. That's not that messy, surreal. |
