| Judge Allows Lawyer for "Dirty Bomb" Suspect Padilla On CNN. Quote:
The decision is a legal setback for the Bush administration, which sought to block Padilla from meeting his defense lawyers under any circumstances, saying national security is more important than a detainee's right to counsel.
U.S. District Judge Michael Mukasey rejected the government's argument in a 35-page decision, ordering the government to permit Padilla's New York-based attorneys to visit the prisoner, who has been held incommunicado in a South Carolina Navy brig since June.
"Absent agreement, the court will impose conditions," Mukasey wrote. "Lest any confusion remain, this is not a suggestion or a request that Padilla be permitted to consult with counsel, and it is certainly not an invitation to conduct further 'dialogue' about whether he is permitted to do so."

Bush is going nuts about this terrorist/war/Iraq thing now. All he talks about anywhere and everywhere.
Probably has nothing else to say.
He's obsessed.
Getting a bit sick of Bush now.

I wasn't sick of bush until I turned CNN on and all you hear about is "preparation for war" .. "When will war start" "Iraq has this much time to disarm" etc. etc. |

But I had a change of heart after that longish phone conversation where you convinced me he's OK.
But I'm having second thoughts.

Shahani I will not disagree with a personal assessemnt of him not being right.
But I believe that he thinks this is in the best interest of the USA and her people. right or wrong that is what he believes.
A politically unpopular decision like this is not about getting votes there is too much risk. It is not about oil because there are better ways to achive this with simply lifting embargos.
This is about his believe that saddam is the anti-crist and that to wipe him out is going to lead to a safer world. If we can drive a wedge of democracy in the middle east it could spread like a disease over the next 50 years.
This is what I think President Bush actually believes. |
