SHOCK AND AWE Just Started
BAGHDAD
Seeing it live on TV.
Why did these people let their Gov't do this to them ?

Kirkut and Mosul (sp?) also under fire.
Live on CNN .
Some anti-aircraft fire.
"Bunker busters were dropped judging by mushroom clouds.
No site of US/UK aircraft. Probably most ordinance dropped 'stand-off'.
Buildings on fire.
Surprised that City hasn't caught fire all together.
Southern oil fields secured first.
Only military targets. Repeated bombing of SAME targets, apparently to dig deeper and deeper.

Wonder how many people they killed. But one thing is fer sure. They terrorized 5 million.
Very disturbing this demostration of such firepower on a helpless population.
It looks they are flattening the whole city.

It looks to me like they took out very specific targets. If you will notice the lights are still on.

Yes, Saddam's Gov't has terrorized the 5 million in Baghdad and more outside.
Flattenning of City not the goal. But fires are a danger. Rember Dresden.
Iraquis on TV last nite asked that Saddam go. But then embarrassed Network, "The US put him there so should remove him".

What exactly do people want to see on TV? What do you think you're going to see?

CNN carried the intensive bombing live. Very impressive although I watch it on my PC screen with a 5 in by 5 in screen. But huge explosions and lots of damage to buildings/infrastructure. Then Rumsfeld comes on and says they were very precision bombs and designed to be extremely accurate and so on.
But what I saw and what you will see repeated tonight on CNN are huge explosions and missiles striking Baghdad.
The damage they caused is anyones guess but they were very huge explosions. And they are saying that lots of residential houses near the buildings where people live are also destroyed. The cruise missiles, even on a tiny screen were terrifying.
In real life you can imagine the terror it caused the ordinary people.

Terrified population???
Although I do not think this is probably view as a pretty fireworks show. I have already heard about people on the roofs watching the show.
I think that displays an Iraqi people who are quite confident that the US is not targeting them.

Epidemic, did you see the Cruise Millsile shot?
Are you implying that the massive air strike against Iraq by the US is "mere fireworks"?
These are the largest and most destructive conventional bombs in history and you says they were sitting watching the show on roof?
C'mon, you pulling my legg here?

No and that was the point of my statement "this is probably view as a pretty fireworks show"
And I would be on my roof watching as long as I was not near the likely targets. Buildings with AAA and Radar dishes and ones that say restricted keep out.
With a helmet from hell because all that AAA goes up must come down. In fact I will guess that there is possibly more people killed by falling AAA debris then people in that last go round.

If I heard that Arnold Swartzeneger was coming for my hide, you know I would get out of town.
It's too bad that Saddam lives around innocents but this is the price that will have to be paid to secure humanity. The power that Saddam is trying to achieve would put the world’s population at risk.
This third world idiot hasn't learned what Japan, Germany, England, United States and other countries that were involved in the numerous wars in this century have learned. War and mass destruction had its place in history but it will no longer be tolerated as a threat or a reality. Lessons have been learned the hard way.
The Coalition has the power to selectively remove anyone that will not try to get along with the rest of the world. The Iraqi infrastructure is still intact. Water, electricity are still running. The oil fields are secure now with only 30 wells set to fire by Saddam. All but 4 have been extinguished so far. The wells are to be given back to the Iraqi people. Food for oil plan still active.
The rest of the world is bent on achieving cooperation with each other. There is no longer room for Hitler's in our world society. Saddam is now learning this.
The CNN is producing pictures and live feed of the skyline of the Baghdad. Since very few folks really know the lay of the land there, it looks like the city is ablaze. Not true. The Republic Palace is huge and surrounding the palace are many bunkers and military support buildings. That whole area of the city is commercial. Very few private residences. If this was WW2, they would just blanket bomb the cities with no concern of the private population. If you live next to a military installation, would you stick around with war ensueing?
The States, Brits and the Coaliton are looking at the big historical picture. Keep saying please to Saddam and the possibilty of chaos grows with each day. At some point it has to be realized that being polite doesn't work. Action needs to be taken. I think history will look favorably on this military action.
Isn't it nice that with all USA's power and resources that they choose democracy for the world? I for one am very proud to be a neighbor of the USA.
Cheers!

Ari Fleisher asked at Press Conference who would administer the Oil revenues after war. He replied that the UN has its "oil for Food" program or such implying the UN would administer the Oil revenues--not the US/UK.
Gives real confidence, huh, that it will be in real smart hands.
Hopefully there will be some reconsideration as the whole Food for Oil, would , IMO, become moot.
