Why do they hate so much
I have a few question's about the mideast.
Why do the Turk's hate the kurd's? Why does Saddam hate the kurd's? Why do the Kurds hate the Turks?
Why do Sunni mulsim's hate the shiite muslim's?
Why do Shiites hate the sunni's? ( I remember something about them splitting apart but can't remember what caused it)
Why do some of these muslim countries hate their neighboring muslim countries?
And why do they hate the jew's so much that they will join together against them? ( they hated them before Israel had a state so the Jew's getting a state in the mid -east can't be the only reason)

Why do Jews hate Arabs?
Why do Americans hate Arabs?
Why do British hate the French?
One can go on and on. Such is life.
Sorry I don't know enough history to answer your questions. ClubMed probably knows but is not posting anymore as a protest against the bigoted postings of some members. Maybe some one else knows. But one thing I can say is that most of these "hate" feelings are due to greed for land, money, and oil.
Basically that is what it is all about.

I guess I'll have to take a 4 year world history class. I'm talking about "killing hate" not just dislike of the French etc.

Because it's human nature to hate. It is natural and probably the easiest thing to do.

Yes, life seems boring without some sort of hate around.

Re: Why do they hate so much
I actually heard this on NPR the other day. From what i remember hearing, it goes back to (i think) the prophet Mohammed, and the inherent problems with leadership following his death. There were no leadership provisions made in the event of his death, and 2 groups splintered off - the Shiites following who they believed should lead, and the Sunni's following who they thought was the true leader. I think it was the Sunni's who were in the minority, but that's the history of the 2 groups. That's what it dates back to, and I'm sure that they have grown further and further apart, with different laws and interpretations arising, different ways of life evolving, etc.Originally posted by swamp-fox

To me, a very interesting question is why the same thing hasn't occurred with Christianity. You have Catholicism, a whole slew of protestants, Baptists, Methodists, Jehova's Witnesses, Christian Science (Christian Scientists???), Lutheran ... and i'm sure many more I'm forgetting. I guess in a way it did happen, and one result (indirectly) was the formation of the United States. Many fled religious persecution from England way back when, but I'm unaware of any killing or wars that were religiously motivated between different sects of Christianity. But that's just a cursory thought, and it's entirely possible I'm missing something maybe even obvious.
This one I'm pretty sure dates back to brothers - the sons of Abraham. Isaac was one of Abraham's sons, and Isaac was given all of Abraham's inheritance, including the lands of Israel. Abraham gave gifts to his other sons including Ishmael, who was his son through a concubine named Hagar, but Abraham sent him "into the east country" giving everything he had to Isaac. Both Isaac and his brothers claimed the inheritance of Abraham. Each contests the other. Isaac got it, obviously, as Abraham sent Ishmael and his brothers eastward. Ishmael took an egyptian wife (i think), and Arabs are the descendants of Ishmael. Jews are the descendants of Isaac.
And why do they hate the jew's so much that they will join together against them? ( they hated them before Israel had a state so the Jew's getting a state in the mid -east can't be the only reason)
So both the Jews and the Arabs are descendants of Abraham.
In short, this is why you don't have concubines!
Anyone further in the know, correct me if i'm wrong.

I don't believe that americans hate muslims.
Sometimes we fear and lump them together with radical islam but basic run of the mill arab in the US is just another citizen who owns a quicki mart or drives a cab.
everyone should hate the french
jews have a genuine reason to hate arabs.
palestinians have a genuine reason to hate jews.
but one problem with muslims is this blind support for eachother no matter what when outside forces act on them.
They have no problem killing eachother but they band together when others defend themselves.Last edited by Epidemic; March 23rd, 2003 at 06:29 PM.

Sorry: nobody has a "genuine reason" to hate another race, religion, nation, tribe.
One may have historical reaons for suspicion, and I admit that generally stereotypes have some basis in fact.
But I remember that when I was in grad school, there were two postdocs in my research group. One was an Orthodox Jew who had survived the death camps as a child; the other was a German who as a child had been in the Hitler Youth.
They were best friends. If they didn't have reason to hate, nobody does.

Sadly, Theo, they are in the vast minority. While a beacon of what people should be, it's a small beacon in a large and very dark world. Had they been separated and brought up in an environment condoning and fostering hatred all of their lives, the chances of their friendship would be vastly dimished.
I doubt there would be peace on earth if there were only 1 person left on it. having nobody else to hate, he would likely turn to self-loathing...Usually, terrible things that are done with the excuse that progress requires them are not really progress, but just terrible things.

i really dont think people hate nationalities ie americans arabs, english french etc. .. were all the same we get jobs, put food on the table, keep a roof over our heads. this is the same all over the world... the hate comes in for form of politics. even though we vote people into office we have little control of them after they are in. the news pounds the crap in our heads day in and day out as if it were brain washing us. hatred is learned at home from parents politics and the news. ive seen programs where they put jewish and arab kids in camp and they became friends once they were taken out of the hostile environment, but after they returned home and saw the violence the hatred came back.
its like cat and dog we just cant learn to get alonJOIN TEAM 111

Thirty Years War in Europe, 1618-1648

Religion is not the only factor in these conflicts, but what war is that simplistic?

March 23rd, 2003, 08:56 PM #13these are the type of comment that spawn hate . sterotyping is the cause of alot of hate . it just goes to show that hate is taught. its a shame .I don't believe that americans hate muslims.Sometimes we fear and lump them together with radical islam but basic run of the mill arab in the US is just another citizen who owns a quicki mart or drives a cab.
religion spawns alot of hate period . no matter what you god is they all teach that theres is the 1 and only god and all else are wrong . telling someone they are wrong , no matter if they are or aren't cause people to hate .
hate is just to easy to learn and so hard to unlearn .
let me add my screenname might sould arab but i am not .

The removal of humor in favor of "political correctness" causes hate, too! South Park's episode with the Toleration Camps is a good study...
Another great study is a song from Political Sattirist songwriter from the 1950'S called "National Brotherhood Week"
Actually, a lot of Tom Lehrer's comedic melodies are very enlightened and enlightening - not to mention funny as hell!
One that comes to mind concerning certain protestors of a particular event is called "Folk Song Army" His songs are truly timeless!
Anyway, my point is i think that for some reason people take themselves too seriously. That can lead to a lot of things, including hate.Usually, terrible things that are done with the excuse that progress requires them are not really progress, but just terrible things.

The Jews own 40% of the media? I find that hard to believe. Please provide a credible source.

I'll go with religion for $500.00
It's killed more people throughout history than anything else has. Manmade or natural.
Cheers! When those who believe in any of the available gods understand why they deny all other gods, they should come to understand why atheists lack a belief in theirs.

Wow!!! A blast from the past!!
My vote goes to tribalism and a religous mindset stuck in the 12th. century.
