Should FCC Clean up "Shock Jocks" Act?

There is a move afoot to start cleaning up the foul language and off-color subject matter on the public radio waves.

Is this just a good thing or a bad thing?

http://www.nypost.com/entertainment/56684.htm

Does free speech on public airwaves include the right to use what used to be called vulgarity?

HS was fined a million bucks years ago by the FCC that Infinity paid---he knows what he can and cant say and they have internal sensors to "hit the button" in case anything slips, most of the stuff folks find offensive can be heard on any elementary school playground all across America...

Call me an "Old Foggie" if ya' want, but it's gotten way out of hand!!

Think about this --

Per capita, what is the violence rate before spankings, discipline, etiquette, and decency was deemed improper? And what is it now?

Why is that? You never heard the kind of language shouted when we were in school. What's changed?
Oh yeah, that was before we protected people like Howard Stern and allowed them to just say anything....

Kids are in school in the mornings, not listening to Howard Stern on the radio, I doubt many 4th graders are listening in anyways as it just doesnt seem like it would be very appealing to them---and if they are, why arnt the parents moderating?

My only problem with limiting free speech is....... where do you draw the line? Who draws it? What makes one persons limits better than anothers?

Free speech is free speech. Period. It was supposed to be a protected right.

If you don't like what you hear on tv or radio...... you have the RIGHT to change the station. If you hear kids on the playground that are saying things unappropriate, you probably have parents that aren't responsible enough to change the channels.

But that would be the PARENTS responsibility....... not everyone elses. You don't limit rights "for the childrens sake". What children hear on tv and radio is in the end the parents responsibility. Teaching children right from wrong is also the parents responsibilty.

If creating a new life was a priviledge instead of a "right" there would be better parents in this world. To many people that are "parents" that shouldn't be or aren't ready for parenthood. This would also solve many other social problems also.

As far as what you hear on the playground........ seems to me that got WORSE once kids found out that the school principle couldn't use that wooden paddle like they used to. No fear of any "real" punishment.

Spare the rod........spoil the child.

just my point of view........ subject to change if a more logical point of view is made
